Around Baseball Offseason Edition - Derek Jeter will retire at seasons end

Bonifacio might make more sense than Schafer. Can play CF and 2b as opposed to just CF.

I really hope we just go with Cunningham over Schafer (or Bonifacio). I am sure at least one team would give something decent for the promise of Schafer's first half.

Would like to see something like Schafer and Gearrin for Ryan Cook.

Apparently mlb has been sending money to the nats to make up for their bad tv deal. Anyone else pissed off about this. Braves have a bad tv deal signed by previous owner and mlb doesn't care. The nats have a bad tv deal they knew in advance was a bad deal and mlb gives them money to make up for it every gear? That's bullcrap.

I'd like to see the whole story, but it doesn't look good so far.

Whoa! Wait? WTF?

Yeah I'd like to see this too.

If true, that would start a huge shockwave through the system.

Even the Yankees would be pissed.

What a great deal for Arizona. Ugh. Would love to have him for that price.

For 2 or 3 years? Pass when we have so many young guys in the rotation and no need to block anybody making that much. And it's market value for Arroyo anyways. He's averaged 1.62 WAR since 2009 when you take out his horrible 2011 (where he was sick a lot). The going rate is about 6 million per WAR right now. 6 millon for 1.62 WAR comes out to 9.72 million. Pretty much what this is.

The third year is a team option, which makes this deal a good one for Arizona. And, much like last year when Wren scrambled at the deadline looking to find a starting pitcher (and tried claiming someone in almost the same position as Arroyo), we are going to regret not making a move.

With a buyout of 4.5 million which would make his salary for 2 years 11.75. It's market value. I don't think paying 10 million for a 37 year 1.5-2 win pitcher for 2-3 years is something a team like the Braves should be doing considering we have young guys that we need to keep and pay for. It's the same reason we didn't go multiple years on Hudson and we did sign Floyd to a 1 year deal.
