As for Zobrist, I'm ok with the signing if we plan to flip him later, though I don't know why he would sign here.

It doesn't make much sense to keep him long-term. His defense really slipped last year, and he'll probably be a 2-3 WAR player at best over the next few years.

It may or may not be a sinking ship, but there is definitely a bad vibe in Washington. I wouldn't be surprised if that contributed to his decision.

I didn't think they ever offered him a long term deal. I know they offered Desmond, but he rejected.

I think it was just a numbers/finances game with Jordan. Sherzer/Strasburg/Gio/Ross with Giolito and Lopez emerging.

The Mets are going to be tough to beat, but the Nats will have a pretty strong team as well.

With his controllable years, no way I trade Shelby. Instead, I make him the ace, the cornerstone of this staff. Julio, sell high if you must. All this money people want them to accumulate is going where, exactly? With the new stadium on the horizon, there is no need to completely strip this roster -- the money will be there in 2017 when we need it.

But, as I have said before and I stand by this -- trade Freeman and I am done. Life's too short. I've got another team that put a championship on my doorstep last season with more exciting young players than the Braves could hope to have if they traded everyone. FIfty years is long enough to follow one team.

What if it's for Joc Pederson? Reports are that we've discussed it, and I think we'd be crazy not to give Miller up for him.

I really like Shelby but I'd do it for Pederson. Young with power is what we need. We'd need to bring in another starter for sure then. Especially if Teheran was flipped for Baez/Soler. Fister on a 1 year deal to build some value wouldn't be a bad idea.

If we turned one year of Heyward into Pederson, that's pretty incredible. And it would also give me more confidence in the ability to flip pitching for legitimate hitting talent.

Joc would make a strong lineup addition: Markakis RF, Aybar SS, Freeman 1B, Pederson CF, Olivera 3B, Soler LF, AJ C, Peterson 2B.

Add in a guy like Soler, and we are off.

Both would be bench pieces. Or I'd offer to take Castro back if they take Bourne or Swisher, they'd only be on the hook for next year's salary. Castro wasn't to bad last year after being moved to 2b.

I was joking.. who cares where they play.. only would want them to get enough ABs to trick some team in giving us a C prospect if we eat the entire year salary..
