Rockies trading Corey Dickerson and a minor league pitching prospect to the Rays for Jake McGee and a minor league pitching prospect. The prospect on the Rays side isn't believe to be in the Rays top 10. Good lord, what are the Rockies doing? Since they seem to genuinely believe they're going to be competing this year, what would it take for us to get some of their specs like McMahon or Dahl?

When I saw this trade, I thought the exact same thing. they traded Dickerson (who has some red flags) for a relief pitcher with one year of control left. That is Arizona crazy. Copi.. get on the horn with them stat..

Even with Dickerson's splits and injuries.. he is a good ball player and worth much more than the Rays gave up.

I'm a big fan of McGee and lukewarm on Dickerson, so I don't think COL did terribly here. Would probably still give TB the edge in winning this trade though.

This should quiet the Cubs / Rays rumors and further settle the OF market. Trying to hold out hope that the phone will ring on Markakis.

I could still see the Angels call on Markakis but they don't have much to trade.

The Angels seem like the best fit. They have a rich owner and no good prospects, so taking on Markakis as a salary dump would fit their situation. I wonder though if Eppler is the type of GM that would value Markakis. My hope is that Arte Moreno himself would spearhead interest, as he's done with other players in the past.

Markakis is the perfect role player, he just knows how to hit and get on base. He's slowing down some in the outfield but he's still valuable.

I understand the salary dump aspect, but he does have value beyond his contract so we'd have to get something in return. I just don't see what the Angels would have to offer. Todd Cunningham is their #14 prospect on MLB right now as a gauge for their depth. Maybe one of Kubitza/Cowart? Or shoot for the moon and ask for their first rounder this past year, Taylor Ward?

I would be all for it. He will probably want a opt out clause after 3 years or so and try and use that to leverage more money like ARod and Sabathia did to the Yankees. I say sign him, let him opt out and go sign somewhere else. We get 3 years of his prime then let someone else deal with paying him 40 mill a year until he is 45.

Dbacks trade Aaron Hill, Chase Anderson, Isan Diaz and cash to the Brewers for Jean Segura and Tyler Wagner

Need to see $ sent to MIL for full evaluation of this trade, but it's at least a small win for them. Maybe a big win. Segura does not seem to be an upgrade for ARI, and they give up some interesting talent . . . Diaz in particular. Dave Stewart just doing what he does.

I actually dislike this for Arizona quite a bit. They reportedly will save about $6 million, but give up a fairly decent pitcher in Chase Anderson and a somewhat promising SS prospect. They also get a completely useless player in Segura.
