Around Baseball

Bonificaio had 5 hits last night for the Cubbies in a 16 inning game they lost to the Pirates.

Add his 4 hits on opening day and he's found his way into some pretty interesting company. I've always liked Bonifacio (and I realize he's likely to end up with an OPS around .650) and I wished the Braves would have made a play for him during the stretch run last season. I've always thought his name sounds like a kinky sex act, but he's a pretty good utility guy.

With three steals, and two pick offs to his credit so far.

Bad luck for us. Now we might have to face Zimmerman instead of Roark:

The Nationals are hoping that Jordan Zimmermann (flu) will be able to start Friday versus the Braves.

Zimmermann was up all night Wednesday with a fever and upset stomach, so the Nationals scratched him from his scheduled Thursday start against the Mets and will go with Tanner Roark instead. If Zimmermann doesn't feel well enough to pitch Friday, it'll be a bullpen game.

Yes and No.

Roark has pretty much shut us down, dont think we've even scored against him, small-sample size and such.

Zimmerman is obviously better though.

Good point. Braves hitters are 4-37 off of Roark. Wow that's epically bad.

Braves hitters are 18-86 with a .579 OPS against Zimmerman

I wanted him before we got Johnson last year too but a number of folks on here said he "sucks" and made me out to be nuts. Then he went and played just as well as I expected with the Royals. He'd been a considerable upgrade to EJ at second for us late last year IMO. I wanted him for the bench and a platoon option this off-season too before the Cubs got him.

Just a terrible deal they gave him. Dude is barely hitting 92 anymore.

Yea, I enjoyed watching him blow the game last night. I knew it was coming too the way the inning started. Seeing him try to close games makes me appreciate Kimbrel even more. Always nice to see Philly lose and I like the Rangers too.

On the Standings page of mlb.com, the National League should be on top. It's really annoying to have to scroll past the AL teams.

Just sayin'.

Forgot McCarver is done with National FOX.

His replacement... Harold Reynolds. Yikes.

I know it was a popular opinion when it happened, but man I really miss John Miller and Joe Morgan doing Sunday Night Baseball. Miller had a very comforting voice, and Morgan despite being senile at times, was good for his input. Schulman is ok but his voice is very strong, and then Kruk is Kruk.

Haven't watched Baseball Tongiht in years because the crew is awful and the highlights suck.
