Around Baseball

Who cares? Screw the Red Sox. They are mad because they are in a long losing streak. 5 run leads aren't automatic. You play hard until the game is over.

The Red Sox have been enormous whiners for a while now. It's as if they think because they are the Red Sox they get should get special treatment from other teams and umps. I can't stand that org and their fans. I hate even watching them play because all they do is complain. Youk was one of the worst, but Pedroia does it too. I think it's part of their coaching.

They haven't had a player that was remotely likable since they started to win. I like Sizemore now, but aside from him they have had a ton of jerks and babies.

Their pitchers, like Beckett when he was there, and Lester, all whine more than anyone else I've noticed, even teams like the Yankees. They want every single close call their way and a bunch that aren't close.

Was at the game, kind of a weird setting. Phillies fans were basically torn between cheering for the no-hitter and cheering for offensive success. Never saw an energy quite like that.

That's pretty cool man. Congrats on witnessing history.

Not surprised. Based on the phillies forum I visit every so often they have been rooting against that the phillies for years hoping it would get the manager and gm fired.

Nice to see Yunel doing his best Gomez impression. Then again, is it really taboo to steel third in this situation? The whole thing seems silly.

Well this is Sanberg's first full year as manager.
Every Phillies fan I know hates Amaro Jr. though. Guy has made no moves to set anything up for the future. He's been a disaster.

You should have seen the standing O Mike Trout got a few weeks back. Of course I was on my feet, but almost every fan in the stadium was as well.

fwiw, he's from a town right by me and very close to philly. He said last time he was at CBP was in 08 when he was tailgating the WS. There were about 8000 fans from his hometown of 24,000 there.

I wouldn't think it would be such a big deal with a 5-run lead. 5 runs is hardly a walkover.

I wonder if things get really bad in Philly if they would consider trading Utley. He is everything this braves team needs.

Escobar's got a screw loose (you have to have a screw loose to get in Bobby Cox's doghouse), but who is still playing in the bigs? Escobar or Alex Gonzalez?

That aside, the Red Sox all of a sudden think they invented baseball. F*ck them.

Alex is also 37 years old and did play some for the Tigers this year.

I agree. The salary would essentially be the same with Uggla and Utley for this and next year. Utley does have some vesting options all the way through 2018 but they are club options with a 2 million buyout. I just wonder how much the Braves would have to sweeten the pot with prospects to get them to take on Uggla. I would imagine quite a bit as they should be able to get a good haul just for prospects and not taking back obscene salary. Even though I think it would take an overpay in prospects to get him I might be inclined to do the deal.
