Around Baseball

Not sure if the latest numbers reflect the trade or not, but Fangraphs puts the A's odds of winning the WS at 13% and their odds of making the WS at 23%. The trade won't move those numbers by more than 5%.

Yeah sure, but I prefer numbers pulled out of someone's ass.

And I'm talking about as constructed right now, not speculating on injuries that may or may not happen... But the Tigers rotation is not as intimidating in reality as the names involved.

If Verlander keeps pitching like ****, yes, otherwise Tigers is still better.

Scherzer > Gray.

Sanchez > Kazmir.

Porcello/Smyly=Chavez/Hammel.

Verlander and Samardizja is the breaker in the rotations.

If Verlander gets his head out of his ass, Tigers is better.

Is Verlander's head up his ass, or has he lost it? It happens. Hell, if you're a Brave, you will definitely wake up one day and have parts flying off all over the place.

I take Samardzija over Verlander at this point and it isn't that close.

He's never pitched in the playoffs.

Verlander has.

I'm still taking Verlander with my season on the line, maybe he's lost it though

This trade must make the Rays very happy. It sets a very high price for David Price. It removes two of the more sought after starting pitchers from the market in one stroke. And it adds to the pressure on teams competing with the A's (especially the Angels and Mariners) to do something to boost their own rotations.

When was the last time the 'best' team and not the 'hottest' team in baseball won the World Series? The Braves are the poster child for that condition!

A's got better for 2014 and the Cubs got stronger for the future. I just hope Wren and Co. can do something smart and amazing to make the Braves better and stronger!!

Thatcher was someone I thought the Braves might have interest in, so the Angels' trade is of at least slight interest.

If this makes any sense, it helps them for 162 but in a 5-7 game series, i dont think it matters all that much.

Having to face Gray and Samardjiza twice in a seven game series is huge. Post season experience aside. They are a dominant 1,2 combination. How doesn't having the best staff in baseball help you during a post season series?

Bo Sox had the best record in baseball just last season didn't they?
