Yipes! Bad news for a budding great. At least it appears to have missed his eyes. Hope he has a full recovery.

EDIT: You have to watch the whole thing. Wow! Terrible job by umps in trying to control the situation. MLB video: http://m.mlb.com/video/v36174175/must-c-clips-stanton-hit-in-face-benches-clear/?cid=mlb

1. Both the Stanton and Johnson HBPs were called strikes. Unbelievable. The home plate ump should lose a month of pay for that.
2. The Marlins announcers should be banned for life for general suckitude. On that sequence they made Chip and Joe sound like Red Barber and Vin Scully. Listening to that was almost as bad as taking a 95 mph fastball to the face.

Yeah, I couldn't believe the announcers. The rampant homerism required of announcers these days usually just borders on the ridiculous. These guys picked up their mental passports and flew to Lunacyland.

I don't think the Stanton one should have been called a strike as it hit him in the face. But technically the Johnson one was the right call. I mean honestly technically both were the right call but I think in todays game where everyone throws 90+ you can't really penalize someone for getting hit in the face and their bat going around because they're panicking trying to get out of the way. Johnson one technically is right though, all MLB says about the rule is "(f) He attempts to hit a third strike and the ball touches him;" Johnson was attempting to hit the pitch before it hit him. Technically right, not right in the common accepted rule though of committing to it, but when does that ever happen?

In other news.

If the Tigers, Royals, and M's win tonight, and the A's lose, they'd be out of a playoff spot the way things stand.

Also, Dodgers/Giants in a tight race out West.

Pulling for anyone out of the AL this year. Or the Pirates if they can hold off Milwaukee. Death to the Nats, Dodgers, Cardinals, Giants.

I might watch playoff baseball if it's on and I am free. I don't even care who wins. It would be nice to see Royals and Pirates in the series though.

Although you know baseball isn't having that.

They're not going to get the ratings anyway, given how the media and public are now absorbed in football 24/7. Might as well see the fans in those cities go crazy.

It would be great for baseball to see that World Series. However if they have their way it's gonna be Dodgers and Angles though.

Anyone but the Nats or Cards.

I'm game with anyone else.

I'd like to see my guy Trout win a ring.

Papelbon got thrown out of the game yesterday for grabbing his tiny package. Joe West was jealous of the size of Papelbon's green bean and jelly beans, so West decided to throw him out of the game.

Chaos ensued.

That is what happened yesterday around baseball.

Kelly Johnson has now played for 8 different teams at the major league level. Only 5 more to tie Octavio Dotel.
