Around Baseball

Yeah, Shields is a stud but trading Myers was odd. I thought Wade Davis would have done better than he has though.

Rays are just the best in the business at turning over their talent. Wren needs to be a little more pro-active with that.

It really is amazing. They trade a TOR pitcher for a young stud and don't miss a beat in the rotation.

The three top teams in the AL Central are all 9-1 in their last 10 games.

I feel bad for the Royals. They finally put together a long string of solid playing and they can't gain any ground on the division. Their pitching has been awesome but their young hitters continue to not live up tot he billing.

Still can't believe they traded Myers+ for Shields.

Possibly the worst trade ever.

I think there have been a lot worse trades, because Shields is really good.
I don't think it was a great deal for KC by any means. I wouldn't have traded Myers. But it's not the worst ever.

What if Shields walks in 2 years, and all you got left is Wade Davis.

It's good I suppose if they sign Shields to an extension. Otherwise, it's awful unless they somehow win a WS.

It's early but Myers is looking realllllly good.

Certainly several others have been worse

Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore and Lee Stevens to the Cleveland Indians for Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew.

Angels just released Ryan Madson; he pitched in one game in AAA for them. Depending on his health status, he would be an interesting arm to pick up and stick in AAA for a potential September call up as someone who could help out and give our guys a rest leading up to the playoffs.

Feel bad for the Royals, blowing out the Twins but the Tigers already won today. About to be 12-2 in their last 14 games and the Tigers actually gained 1 game on them in the division.

At the moment they're only 3.5 out for a Wild Card spot. If I were them, I wouldn't focus too much on the Tigers.

Ryan Madson was released by LAA today. Hasn't thrown a pitch in 2 years after coming back from TJ.

I'd give him a minor league deal and see what he can do for us in September. He had a lot of action with Philly, never liked his mechanics but it wouldn't hurt.

Copycat.

Great minds, I suppose.

This. It's amazing how much every single one of their hitters have regressed substantially from last yr, aside from Hosmer.

Was listening to the BBTN podcast and Olney raised an interesting point. No one is really distancing themselves from the pack in the MVP race. We know ESPN will be pimping their boy Puig if the Dodgers make it. Freeman is 10th in OPS, CJ 11th and Justin 19th in the NL. It would be hilarious if Justin has another April and gets serious consideration when he was craptastic over half the season. We know it will go to a player on a playoff team and if the Pirates win the division I might be in favor of just giving it to McCutchen, winning the division with the Pirates deserves a significant award in my opinion. I think Freeman could be a darkhorse candidate if he gets a few more RBI than the 108 he is on pace for now. I could easily see it going to Kershaw this year.
