Around Baseball

Harper didn't really ask to be hit, and I don't see why Arod was a target here. It's bush league that the Yanks aren't allowed to retaliate in this game without further consequences.

Its unfair to compare trout to what cabrera is doing now. Compare trout now to cabrera at the same age. We can't really say what trouts ceiling is. He might also regress.

If I had to choose I take trout because of his elite defense at a premium position.

that you're not very bright

Ok so player A was better than player B at player A's age so therefore its possible that player A will be better than player B at player B's age.

However,

Player C was better than player A at player C's age so therefore it isn't possible that player C will be better than player A at player A's age?

That is what you are trying to say now?

No. I'm not trying to say that. Using extremely small samples from rookie years will make you look foolish. That would be like me saying since Teheran is having a better rookie year than Maddux, then he will be better than Maddux. Of course that is stupid.

With Trout/Harper, we have a pretty large sample to go on with Trout now, and a decent size with Harper, and it is clear that Harper isn't on the same playing field. What is clear, is using that large sample, and factoring in league differences and pitching differences, is that Trout is at least showing that he is developing faster than Miggy did. And it's totally senseless to say he will never become the hitter that Miggy is today.

You can continue to discount the impact of Harpers injury earlier this year all you want. He was on his way to potentially topping what Trout did in his age 20 year and I suspect that by the end of this year that Harper will start producing like he did prior to getting hurt.

And again, Trout has incredible on base skills but his power is partially a product of his ability to take the extra base. So to compare just hitting lines with Cabrera doesn't really capture their true hitting abilities. Trout is an amazing player but in terms of purely hitting a baseball I don't see how he gets to where Cabrera is now which is one of the top 5-10 hitters of all time.

Was he on his way to having a 10+ WAR, and one of the best seasons ever. He's been back from injury for like 2 months, and news flash, every player is dinged up over the course of a season.

He wasn't close to topping Trout last year.

Bryce Harper in 110 AB against LHP .174 (.240 last year)

Mikey Trout in 119 AB against LHP .336 (.267 last year)

Not getting into any Harper/Trout nonsense, that's been discussed way too much. It is hard to gauge how injured one player is versus the next. His knee is clearly still bothering him as he's been instructed to not run out routine balls and he occasionally gets pulled from games to rest. He came back way sooner than he should have. At the time of his injury, he was hitting .287/.386/.587; which is still inferior to what Trout is putting up right now.

Does anybody here think that Ryan Dempster should be suspended for throwing at A-Rod last night?

He threw 4 pitches at him, if you're going to suspended peopl for throwing at hitters on purpose...this is a prime example of it.

No but i also dont think the umpire should have issued a warning. CC should have been given the right to plunk somebody.

Bottom line is Dempster is a punk. He wants to stand on principle but last i checked he didnt throw at Braun last year when he got off on a technicality.

This wasnt' about steriods, it was bc ARod stiffed him last year at charity event.

If that be the case then he should be suspended.

By the way, i sick to death of these players whining about him playing. They agreed to these rules. If you're scared, say you're scared.

How did I know last night espn would put the dodgers #1 on their power rankings despite the fact we're 3 up in loss column and 4 in win.

The Dodgers are 42-9 over their last 51 games. I don't know the formula behind their power rankings, but I'm sure it's more than just win/loss record.
