My exact thoughts.. So they both threw punches.. Odor shoved Bautista, so he started it and should get an extra game or so.. but they both threw punches, Odor connected.. so he gets punish because he made contact??

Melvin Upton Jr. with the walk-off two-run homer to center field to win it for the Padres. The stats, both offensively and defensively, that he's putting together this year is what we wanted and expected. That really sucks.

I doubt he does that here. But again I think we goofed putting him with kimbrel. Unless that money saved went into the touki deal and he turns out great or into some other area (international signing?)...

The handling of Bethancourt has to be questioned, especially in light of the organizational weakness at catcher. You'll never hear this FO admit they made a mistake with a player. Instead, you'll get more of the whispering campaign about bad work habits, etc. Braves Way. Gold Standard Organization.

Bethancourt is with an extremely small sample size, 44 AB's, and there is a reason he's not even the starting catcher for the Padres. Also only has 1 BB in 45 plate appearances. His slugging right now is .591 which is over .150 points higher than he ever put up at any level. Iso of .318 so year, expect normalization to occur soon.
Upton is definitely disappointing.

Of course, not expecting him to continue this all season long. However, it is disappointing that they have gotten more out of him in this small sample size than we ever got out of him.

I agree with Beth. I wanted us to do a little more on his part, but the BJ crap makes me so mad. If he plays even remotely close to this, we could be having a different conversation right now.

Bethancourt has 3 PBs in 100 innings caught. Hanigan and Thole are far worse, but Bethancourt's defense just wasn't as good as advertised. Add the supposed work ethic issues and the change-of-scenery was warranted.
Don't know what to say about Melvin except that some of this has to fall on the player. He was absolutely horrid with us and then proceeded to pout about it. He's playing LF for a team that isn't going to play a serious game past July, so it's easy to relax (and it's easy for the Padres to let him relax).
I don't defend the front office for everything, but I have no problem with the fact these two are no longer wearing Braves' uniforms.

Say what you want about CB but he was never given opportunity to succeed in a lost season. I think that falls on both John and fredi. When you have less than 300 plate appearances before you make a decision on the future of a player is just short sighted. Catching is one of the hardest positions on the field and without regular playing time, I imagine it would be hard to learn. I mark the handling of CB as a major failure of the FO. Up there for me with burning one of our top prospects for an old Cuban who wants a party van and hits women.
While I see what you are saying, I think there were probably things going on that we were not privy to. I have to trust that they knew things that we just don't see.
I also believe that once a relationship sours... like it did with both Melvin and CB, it is not just about performance on the field. Sometimes the relationship is not salvageable and has to end.

BJ needed to go. Happy for him but he would have never done this with Atlanta. Blame the coach. Blame the player doesn't matter. He was done. CB may had those issues but if he did I would assume we will hear about them in padre land. We will see. He may bust out. I just wish he would had a better opportunity. Water under the bridge really. Still happy with about 80% of the moves thus far.

I have always been under the impression that it was the field staff that was fed up with him and once the field staff sticks a fork in a guy, what's the front office supposed to do? And it wasn't just the big-league field staff, it was the minor league instructional staff as well. Blame Fredi or blame Snitker or blame Cadahia. Bethancourt just wouldn't take the bit here. I don't care if he succeeds or not, but he needed a wake-up call and that probably wasn't going to happen in this organization.

The Cubs have designated reliever Neil Ramirez for assignment, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times tweets. The move clears roster space for outfielder Matt Szczur, who was activated today. Jason Heyward’s MRI on his injured side revealed only a contusion, so he’ll only need to miss three to five days and won’t require a stint on the disabled list.
Ramirez, 26, got off to a rough start this season for the Cubs, surrendering a whopping eight walks in 7 2/3 innings. He allowed a more modest run total (four) while racking up an impressive 10 strikeouts, though, and has overall been an asset for the Cubs dating back to his debut with the team in 2014. Even with this season’s struggles factored in, Ramirez has posted a terrific 2.20 ERA, 10.74 K/9 and 4.27 BB/9 in 65 1/3 frames with Chicago. The team has 12 pitchers without Ramirez, however, and decided it made more sense to risk losing him than reserve catcher Tim Federowicz, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers (Twitter link)
