Around MLB 2016 style

Don't worry La Stella is hitting 283/377/434 too. Hopefully we don't trade away any more 2B that can hit

IDK... I'd still take the slot money and Viz. La Stella probably wouldn't have responded so well to being jerked around like Peterson has.

Jace is probably a better utility player (more positions and better defense). I'm not sure he is as good of a hitter though.

He's a better regular than La Stella. You're the guy always harping on defense being undervalued and La Stella is simply not a good defensive player. Peterson has struggled in the field this year, but he's head-and-shoulders above La Stella in the field. La Stella has to hit to have any value. Maddon is using him the way he needs to be used, but he's a 200 AB guy.

Maybe you are right. But having a super sub that's an actual good hitter is more important to me than have someone not suck defensively at 4 positions. No whether that will be La Stella I don't know. I agree that he's in a good spot with the Cubs.

Evan Gattis has been Houston's starting catcher for the last little while and doing very well on defense and offense. He has an OPS over .800 on the season and has been even better the past month or so. He's a big reason Houston is still alive in the wild card race. He had a walk off homer a week ago in the 9th in Houston's comeback win vs Tampa Bay, then a night later the game winning RBI in their 8th inning rally. He's been clutch and reminding me of what we saw here his rookie season. Though it would be hard to top what he did off the bench for us that year, that was really remarkable.

Good to see him recover from his really slow start.

So the Red Sox took a lot of crap on here for the Porcello extension. But in year 1 it seems to be paying huge dividends. 20-4 with a 3.12 ERA. 4.8 bWAR for those into that.

Porcello is just one of those real solid pitchers that shouldn't be.

deGrom likely out the rest of the year. That kills the Mets chances of doing anything.
Random injuries and players taking a step back has really killed them this year. They have a massively easy schedule coming up, so they may make the playoffs, but they're not sitting pretty.

Gattis with 2 homers today to reach 30 for the year.

Yea, huge ones for Houston too. It was the difference in their 6-5 win and now they're one game back in the wild card. Gattis has really carried them the second half, remarkable he already hit 30 homers this year after missing time early and having a slow start too. He has 30 homers to lead Houston in only 418 AB's. Gattis has also been starting more at catcher than Castro and doing very well at it. Plus here lately DHing on his off-days so playing a lot more down the stretch. His OPS is .828 so far this year.

To sum it up, if Houston steaks into the playoffs Gattis probably their MVP the second half and esp. in Sept. Altuve would be their overall MVP of course (though he hasn't been as good in big spots the second half, esp. vs Texas).

Wouldn't mind having Gattis behind the plate but hopefully Folty keeps developing. Him reaching some of his ceiling alone would be worth it. But Ruiz also has a chance to be solid for us. Wish we could see him play!

Nats Ramos' and Mets Matz's seasons are officially over. Mets would of been a decent pick in the playoffs but 3/5ths of their rotation is gone.

Is Mike Trout's greatness desensitizing fans of truly how remarkable he is? Certainly the writers feel this way. He will lead the league once again in WAR for the 5th straight season yet still only have 1 MVP to show for it.

To put things into perspective here is a list of total WAR by all players through their age 24 season.

Trout is of course #1 ahead of Mantle and Cobb. There is no comp for this guy as he's simply played the best of any player in the history of the game to start their career.
