Around MLB 2017

Lord almighty.

Archer gave up 8 runs over 3 innings tonight. His ERA is over 4 again this year. I really, really don't get why we would give up a huge package for him?? Great stuff, but not exactly a ton more consistant than what we have??

gotta have faith that Chuckie can turn him around.

He K's a ton of guys, but gives up a lot of homers.

I wouldnt give up a huge package for him whenever we have to make that move for a proven star.

This is the team I actually thought the Indians would be. They have so many good players and the addition of Edwin Encarnacion is just huge.

They might overtake Dodgers with the best overall record, that's insane.

Shohei Otani is being posted this year.

Who we thinking gets him? Yankees?

I'm guessing whichever team isn't restricted to a $300k bonus cap and offers him the most ABs.

That might end up being an NL team because he is guaranteed to hit when he pitches, and can pick up another 80 or so PAs as a PHer on the days he doesn't pitch. That's ~200 PAs per year.

It might be hard to find an AL team willing to give him PAs as a DH since most have guys that need to DH, and they probably wouldn't DH him the day after or the day before his starts anyways. They wouldn't give up the DH in games he starts and lose it for the whole game, so that's like 2-3 starts at DH per week, which is ~250 PAs for the season.

Do we have a shot with regards to the bonus money? Not sure where we stand

The following teams are limited to $300k:

Royals
Cardinals
Padres
Reds
A's
Braves
Cubs
Astros
Dodgers
Giants
Nats

Dave Cameron thinks Ohtani will sign for $300k under some scenarios, but I can't imagine a guy giving up $4M-$5M guaranteed just because he is already rich.

I think he goes to a big city club that can pay him $5M: Red Sox, White Sox, Angels, Mets, Phillies, Mariners, Rangers.
