Around the League 2020 Edition

Semien willing to move to 2nd or 3rd. Could be a opportunity to lock down 3B while strengthening our bench. Instead of the light hitting back up SS we usually have Semien could play SS on days Dansby’s out of the lineup and 2nd if Ozzie’s out. Between Semien and Riley you’d have virtually every position backed up.

I saw that and wondered about what you just talked about. Seems like a better fit than Shaw or some others mentioned.

Looks like the DH is a no for 2021.

So do we just bite the bullet on Ozuna in LF for 2021 and hope the universal DH comes back in 2022? It’s expected but there are no guarantees. It would make things simple though.

2021

Acuna RF
Freeman 1B
Ozuna LF
d’Arnaud C
Albies 2B
Swanson SS
Riley 3B
Pache CF
Pitcher

2022

Acuna RF
Freeman 1B (assuming he doesn’t leave)
Albies 2B
Ozuna DH
Swanson SS
Riley 3B
Waters LF
Contreras C
Pache CF

Probably need to upgrade 3B somewhere along the line. Also probably assume Swanson leaves after 2022. Still should have the makings to be a strong core lineup for a long time though.

Any chance Ozuna takes a deal for 4/65 20 mil club option for a 5th year at 20 mil with a 5 mil buyout? With all the young players it would be a manageable contract regardless of outcome.

Eaton to white Sox, likely takes a potential springer suitor off the board. Blue jays, Mets and not sure who else would be in on him

It looks like Eaton is getting $7 MM for 2021 with a team option at $8.5 MM for 2022. Eaton is a plausible roll of the dice on the performance end, but $7 MM seems high for someone with that range of rebound risk. I'm surprised he has only played one full season out of the last four and he was hardly a house on fire that year (2019). Solely a corner OF and I don't know if he's going to hit enough. The market is really strange and will likely get stranger.

Mets are in a tough spot now that the DH is likely off the table. Sure they might sign Springer, but for this upcoming season, they already had a full outfield of productive hitters. I guess this would make Nimmo the odd man out, with Dom Smith in LF and Conforto in RF. McNeil was also penciled in to play some OF, with Davis, Rosario and Gimenez in the IF.

Interesting, didn't realize Springer was 31 already and turning 32 at the end of next season. So will be interesting to see how many years are needed to land him, because that contract could get ugly by the end.

basically what NYCBrave touched on. they have 3 OF already, and i don't see them moving on from Smith/Nimmo right now. they're both coming off good seasons.
i think they're much more likely to target DJL and JTR. just my opinion tho.

Well the chatter out of NY is the opposite. They're not in on Realmuto (he's stated he prefers not to play in NY), and Springer and Bauer are their top targets, along with James McCann.

Conforto is a free agent after this season but they've expressed desire to extend him. Maybe they will look to trade Nimmo for pitching, but not sure who the takers on that would be, because Nimmo isn't the type of player a non-contending team would want since he has only 2 arb years left. And what contending team has extra pitching to trade.

yeah, if they trade Nimmo then sure. that would be a clear sign they're going after Springer.
my opinion could very well be wrong. i did not know JTR did not want to play in NY.

Not sure why all that doesn't actually make them MORE likely to sign Springer. With Springer in CF and Nimmo in LF, Smith, Rosario, and a throw-in gets them Lindor with Gimenez sliding over to 2B. Davis shares time with McNeil at 3B and Nimmo in LF for now. If Springer's defense declines after 2 years, they could slide him to LF once Crow-Armstrong is ready. Pay Springer, Lindor, McCann, and Conforto, and add guys like Odorizzi/Paxton/Hamels to round out the rotation rather than spending big on Bauer.
