Around The Majors 2019

I don’t think either guys are particularly great options, but both would be fine value additions.

You are just randomly throwing names out there in some silly attempt to prove something you think you understand.

Just saying looking exclusively at one stat is dumb

Rosenthal says Houston, Atlanta, Minnesota, and Milwaukee are all interested in him. Those teams don't strike me as dumb. Do you think they look at more than xwoba?

I don't think anyone is against trading for him if the price is right; however, if you're expecting him to be more than a mid-rotation pitcher (which your other post seems to suggest you are) you are likely to be disappointed.

Again, I think it's very useful. I don't think you can look at JUST it though. I think it nails scherzer as the best starter in baseball. Do I think Luis Castillo is better than degrom and greinke? Hell no. Having Sergio romo in the top 75 pitchers in mlb is laughable. In what world besides xwoba is Luke jackson better than A. Chapman? And it isn't even close... hell John gant is better than Chapman in this metric

What’s hard to believe about Castillo being better than DeGorm this year?

xwoba isn’t psychic. It measures things that happened this year.

Era: JD - 3.27, LC - 2.29
FIP: JD - 3.14, LC - 3.66
XFIP: JD - 3.27, LC - 3.79
K9: JD - 11.29, LC - 10.53
Bb9: JD - 2.05, LC - 4.50
Babip: JD - .302, LC - .224
fWAR: JD - 3.1, LC - 2.1

I thought xwoba was a predictive stat

Castillo is a high strikeout and ground ball pitcher who gives up weak contact. That's someone who can really outperform his FIP which is caused by a high walk rate.

The way to test how good it is as a predictive stat is to take an out of sample period. Say the second half.

Phillies just won on a Maikel Franco walk off. Could be huge given our upcoming slate and the Nats having the Orioles for two. Would love to win today to give ourselves a 7 game cushion.

It can be. But all it does is evaluate performance in a different way.

You keep using words despite clearly not understand their meaning.

You can’t prove/disprove something being predictive by comparing it to stats over the same time period.

You literally have no clue about the topic you’ve posted about for a full day in some odd attempt to prove something...you aren’t even sure what you’re trying to prove.

LC - .257 woba, .270 xwoba (been little lucky)
JD - .283 woba, .271 xwoba (been little unlucky)

ETA... can't you use this stat in connection with woba to be "predictive"?

Brewers are way too close to the Cubs to sell, but man they do have some tempting guys they could trade if they wanted to. Catcher isn’t exactly a need for us, but Grandal would be a legitimate upgrade at a position I think we are going to struggle with in the second half. Hader is also the type of reliever you think about trading a top prospect for.

Royals traded Maldonado for Mike Montgomery lol. I get that Maldonado isn't getting you a huge return, but at least get a freaking prospect back. How in the hell is Mike Montgomery going to help your franchise in any way.

Dayton Moore has made some dreadful miscalculations the past 2-3 years in the hopes that he could keep the Royals in contention. Now its gonna be a pretty long and painful road back for them.

He couldn't possibly be looking to acquire anyone to delay their prospects' timelines? Singer has an ERA over 5 in 7 starts since being promoted to AA, Kowar has made 4 AA starts, and Lynch and Bubic are still in A+. Glenn Sparkman (yes, who???) is in their rotation right now, and their AAA rotation consists of great prospects like Eric Skoglund (6.51 ERA) and Foster Griffin (7.38 ERA). Jake Kalish may be their best Pitcher currently in Omaha.

Montgomery certainly isn't good, but he'll serve the same purpose Harang and others did when we were rebuilding - you run him out there and hope he gives you enough innings that he keeps you from rushing the prospects.

There should be a million of those guys laying around. Don’t trade assets away to get them. Go grab colon or another guy sitting around who can pitch. Toss cash to a team to get a quad A pitcher off that teams 40 man.
