Around the Majors - 2022 Version

Just to clarify - the Braves are not a big-market team. They're far from "broke", but constantly claiming everybody else's trash and juggling your 40-Man Roster to make that trash fit will certainly help get you there in a hurry - not to mention ruffle the feathers of those controlling the purse strings.

Unlike fantasy baseball, there is actually a cost for doing this - and that cost more than doubled under the new CBA. Every waiver claim now costs $50,000.

Who are you going to trade the Cubs (plus take on Frazier's $1.5 million guaranteed salary) to keep him from making it to waivers???

Such a strange post. The cost of a trade would be negligible as is the transaction fee.

If I’m Newk I’m doing whatever it takes to get into the Astros system. They are the best at maximizing the high velocity and spin rate type of arms like Newk.

Ozzie replacement options via trade:

Matt Duffy, Angels - glove is suspect, but he's a solid hitter. Lifetime OBP .341. Provides position flexibility as well.

Whit Merrifield, Royals - super rough start to the year, but he's been slowly getting better. Slash line of .294/.333/.427/.760 over his last 156 PAs. Glove is still good and he provides position flexibility.

Adam Frazier - I find it unlikely Seattle sells given their division isn't very strong, but Frazier is a rental who should come relatively cheap

Joey Wendle - how does Miami value him going forward? He has another year of control but he's 32 right now. Certainly don't want to overpay for him, but he would be just about the best realist target I am seeing.

Lower tier options:

Cesar Hernandez
Dee Gordon
Rougned Odor
Jonathan Schoop

I don't see anything I like much more than Arcia. And we've got Gosselin behind him, that should do nicely for six weeks.

Kinda wonder if the bad personality might not come cheapest AND be the best fit? Big-time LH power against RHPs when he gets it going, easy fit as a platoon partner for Arcia, AND the Orioles are always primed for a fleecing. Could probably be had for the types of pieces Alex gave up for the OFs last season, so there's a decent chance he could be the same kind of acquisition.

I'm not generally in favor of adding personalities like his to the clubhouse, but if anybody out there can handle those types of guys without having them create havoc it's probably Snitker. I haven't been in favor of adding a guy like him (Pham) in the OF because I felt like there were interior options in the OF - AND Pham's issues seem to run much deeper from afar. Odor would provide two things the team could use immediately - another LH bat with power and a guy who doesn't hurt you defensively.
