Around the Majors - 2022 Version

Makes me want freeman back even more now.

What a crappy sequence of events.

Glad AA is so good be had Olson in reserve.

Freeman could likely sue Close if reports are true. Agents owe a fiduciary duty to their client to put the client's interests above their own. By not relaying an offer to their client for fear their client would accept is a massive breach of that duty.

I think Freeman should sue him. Agents need to be reminded who they work for.

The official Twitter of Excel has posted the same statement Bob Nightengale tweeted in the prior message I posted. Yet, they have not allowed replies to their tweet. Hmmm

It’s the classic he said/she said. Hard for either side to prove unless there’s an email or recorded conversation to dispute it.

Close's wife got $20 million from Fox News and cost Ailes his job so does Close really care about a commission on FFs contract?

He cares about his reputation and he cares about the possibility of losing clients. If the rumors of what he did are true, he's going to lose clients.

"Evaluating all legal options" = threatening to sue to try to sound tough and make our denial believable, while doing damage control with his current clientele.

Close won't sue anyone, even if Gottlieb's tweet was inaccurate. He doesn't want to have to provide the details of every communication with the Braves, or any other team in on the Freeman sweepstakes, or for that matter any details of any other player's negotiations through discovery. Best case scenario for him is that he wins and gets what little Gottlieb has, while simultaneously disclosing his negotiating tactics and almost certainly making himself look like a scumbag to his current and potential clients.

So who is Doug Gottlieb. What is his reputation for accuracy.

Gottlieb was a pretty good college basketball player in the 90's and since has become a media talking head mostly known for very confidently spouting hot takes in a condescending tone of voice. He doesn't have a particularly sterling reputation. Oh, and when he was in college he had to leave Notre Dame because he stole a classmate's credit card.

Manfred said he wants to have robot umps calling balls and strikes by 2024, pitch clock by 2024, and would also like to expand to 32 teams.

Pete Rose has also filed to be reinstated again, arguing that the lack of penalties for the Astros shows his punishment was unjust. Manfred says he will "hear him out"

I would much rather have Olson's deal than Freeman's.

And Pete Rose should absolutely be reinstated. I'm not sure how that's even a question after the steroid, sticky substance, and trash can eras.

If you don't factor in the cost of acquiring Olson, I agree. If I could keep the minor leaguers and get FF on a 5 year deal, I prefer FF
