If you project Grissom to be a solid-to-really-good MLB player, does it make sense to consider trading Albies in the off-season? Between his contract and his overall quality of play, Albies has to possess a ton of surplus value. An Albies trade seems like a good way to either finally fill the left field hole or, probably more appealing, replenish a barren farm system.

High fastballs. Can't hit em, can't lay off em. Refuses to just hit RH. Easiest guy in the league to pitch to hitting LH.

I was very frustrated with his play before he got hurt, maybe too much so, but I would explore a deal for a LF and closer, yeah.

I'm not crazy either. Even have his jersey.

Make HIM your LF if you want to play Grissom at 2B.

Would be incredibly hard to find someone willing to trade you a player that will produce MORE than Ozzie likely will over the rest of his deal for that kind of money.

Makes me wonder if we still start to see some of the highest payroll teams start cutting deals like this. They really don't need to, since they can afford to pay players the highest prices. But once they realize they can afford to build even greater super teams, we might start seeing it. They can certainly take the risks.

Braves have needed a 2B/OF type for the last few seasons. Grissom can be that guy and pickup 500 at bats.

Snit may even be tempted to rest Riley, Ozzie, and Dansby (or his successor).

Plenty of ways to mix and match that group - so much so that trading Ozzie's contract would be a pretty crazy thing to do. He can give you the 25-30 HRs you're looking for as a corner OF if that's where you want to put him. He or Grissom should be a plus defender out there as well.

Trading that contract for surplus value makes all the sense in the world for a team a couple years away from their window. For the Braves? Not so much.
 
So the Julio Rodriguez contract is interesting.

Its 8 years / 120m with either 8 or 10 year club option based on performance escalators (maxes out at 10/330m if Julio wins an MVP). If Seattle decides not to pick up that club option then Julio has a player option for 5/90m.

This deal doesn't have the extremely team friendly club options you'll typically see attached to these type of extensions, while still absorbing a fairly significant risky player option. The upside is buying out three free agent years at around 15-20m AAV (he's likely ROY), and the exclusive option to give him his mega second contract. If he's just an all star level player, the team probably doesn't pickup the option, therefore, will the only benefit will be three extra years of below market compensation.

Grissom could be our Chris Taylor of the Dodgers. I don’t see Grissom playing CF but he can play all over and hit well at any position. Those guys are super valuable.
 
You can’t have too many good players.

Grissom isn’t making Albies go anywhere. Albies is only leaving if he can’t hit or we get double his value.
