AskCoppy Live from last night's Social Media Night

I think most telling is how down he is on Wisler.

I didn't take that as being down on him, I think he was just presenting his assessment of where he is currently. He said you couldn't start him in a playoff game right now, but I didn't take it as him saying that it looks like he'll just be a 4/5...that's just what he's been this year.

Good thing the Braves don't have to worry about the playoffs anytime soon.

Pretty unprofessional from Coppy. Shouldn't be publically speaking about current players being traded or not. Also shouldn't be talking about how disappointed he is in some players...Wisler for example.

Yeah. That was too forthcoming. He's mentioned a few players from other teams I thought were close to tampering. He's transparent. That's good. But that filter needs work.

Don't get me wrong. I love the honesty, but he needs to realize some of those things don't need to be mentioned to the public.

Here's a list of LH SPs for next year. Left off guys who will almost certainly have their options picked up. Not a real inspiring list, but there are some reasonable low-risk signing in there.

Brett Anderson (29)

Jorge De La Rosa (36)

Rich Hill (37)

Derek Holland (30) — $11MM club option with a $1MM buyout

Scott Kazmir (33) — can opt out of remaining two years, $32MM on current contract

Colby Lewis (37)

Jon Niese (30) — $10MM club option with a $500K buyout

CC Sabathia (36) — $25MM vesting option with a $5MM buyout

C.J. Wilson (36)

I wouldn't be surprised to see them go after Moore or Smyly in a trade with the Rays. Inciarte for one of those pitchers would make a lot of sense, and the Rays at the kind of team that would value Ender's defense more than some other teams.

You really think the Nats pick up the option Gio Gonzalez? I kind of doubt that with Giolotto ready. Their rotation is already pretty full with Roark, Scherzer, Stras, and Ross.

If the option isn't picked up, Gio is the pitcher I'd like to bring in.

Yes. Still on pace to be a 3 fWAR-ish pitcher this year. IMO, Nats would be leaving value on the table if they didn't pick up that option.

And barely a 1 brWAR pitcher. They have a gluttony of pitching already. Unless someone gets injured or he starts pitching much better, I don't see the Nats bringing him back.

He seems confident in Ruiz and even mentioned Dustin as a candidate for 3rd.

I'm one of the bigger advocates for those two around here. But I don't think either should be penciled in as regulars in 2017. Let them get their feet wet. Dustin needs time in AAA. Probably Ruiz too. And I would start both out as part-time players in the majors. Let them earn the additional playing time. Prospects of the magnitude of Albies and Swanson you give every opportunity to play to once you bring them up. Guys like Ruiz and Peterson should not be counted on in the same way. Doesn't mean there is no way they become regulars. But make them earn it. Sort of how Prado was given opportunities but not a full-time job the first few times he was called up.

No but you could definitely tell there was disappointment when he said they expected him to be a 2 or 3 because of how well he started off this season.

Maybe he should cut AJ and get a real catcher who will develop young pitching. It doesn't matter at this point if the catcher can hit a lick.

I guess MLB doesn't have tampering charges....b/c Coppy was dropp'n names.

Ruiz was a relatively high pick. He is doing pretty well at 21 in AAA. Coppy did say power comes last and he has the exit velocity. Maybe he doesn't have the swing for lift.

But if a kid has a chance to be an every day 3B and is only 21 in AAA....I think we should keep him in AAA and develop him. He supposedly cleaned up his body this year. Well maybe in year 3 of a cleaned up body and being 23 he might have that power bump.

I think we should be looking at a vet at 3B on a 1-2 year deal. I don't like rushing Ruiz. I'm not betting on him being a stud, but there is still a reasonable chance. Plus I don't want the entire infield being a FA at the same time.

Peterson I'm less sure of. He has to show he can be more consistent and play an entire season. That said, I'd be tempted to put him in LF if I could find a great platoon option. Peterson seems to break down late and struggles some with RH (still young). But if I could find a partner that killed RH pitching, I'd consider moving him up into a platoon.

Something just got off track with Blair. You don't go from no hitting AAA, to not being able to get out of the 2nd inning at the MLB level. I don't buy he "just isn't good" quite yet.

Just don't think I see a fit there for Ender - what would they do with Keiermaier?

I agree...or have hoped the same thing. I was thinking there's been some sort of injury that has affected him or the lumps at the big league level has made him try and change who he is as a pitcher. It's odd.
