Bally Sports Latest

So basically another year of me primarily listening to the Braves on the radio and then see where the dust falls.

Seems like it. Though it seems like MLB is not too fond of things and say no agreement with them was made, at least as of earlier today. Seems like the NBA and NHL are in good shape for the current seasons.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the Rangers and Guardians could be dropped by Bally sooner rather than later and I believe the Twins contract just ran out and not renewed. The way things are looking for Bally, I’d just say let’s take our chances and have every team under contract be dropped now.

This seems like it may be doom for some teams. Everyone is talking about it excitedly because of the hope of more lucrative deals, but Bally isn't circling the drain due to regional baseball coverage being a big moneymaker.

I only hope it results in blackouts ending. I'm not willing to pay for a cable package just to watch Braves games.

Bally/FS has always sucked at selling ads, IMO, so they had to have been leaving some money on the table. Maybe it was just BSS/BSSE, or maybe they sold/ran ads to Atlanta-area only, or maybe they just ignored the "Xfinity streaming" feed, but it was 95-100% ads for either other BSS programming or US Ad Council ads, which can't be found anywhere else with such ubiquity and have to be low-hanging fruit.

Granted, if the rights transfer, the new holder may mail it in just as hard. But that's on them.

I’m just thankful we won’t have to be subject to those Ad Council commercials twice every break.

Obviously, Friday is going to be a big day. So many what ifs if the judge sides against Bally. The only thing I'm fairly certain of if Bally winds up on the losing end of the decision in the hearing is the blackouts will be lifted in any steaming broadcasts, just like it was for the Padres and Diamondbacks. But as far as maybe a new network, syndication, things of that nature, I have no clue at the moment. I'm sure folks in the Atlanta market will get the games on their TV, but the rest of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Carolinas, that remains to be seen.

In my dreams I hope for a solution where if you are in ANY market, you can choose ANY team to be represented for a fee. I would gladly pay $60 to get all Braves games on DTV INSTEAD of all Rockies games. It'll never happen.

Territory is a stupid concept. MLB should be glad people want to support one of their teams. Other than deciding where you can put your stadium that should be the end of it.

So today is the day of this hearing that could determine whether the Braves ans the other teams under contract with Bally will have at least another year with them or if Bally is out of business with MLB and likely done for period once the end of the basketball and hockey seasons arrive.

If I had to place a prediction, I think the results will allow one more year of Bally for the 2024 season. This to allow the teams to have a plan in place for 2025 and also to make it as little as an inconvenience to the customers, IE, the fans. But I wouldn't put any money on it. Bally/DSG has been kind of kicking the can for a while and it really seems like MLB is fed up with them.

Think we'll have an idea of Braves TV for next year by day's end.

Yeah I think they'll hang on for one more year since the court seems to be determined to let them breach one contract at a time. And I can't see a way around that. It'd be nice if they'd apply a theory of anticipatory breach, or constructive breach, and put them, us, MLB and the teams being held hostage out of our collective misery.
