Bally Sports Latest

From what I can tell, if the judge approves the deal, the Braves all the other teams who have contracts with them will have their games on Bally for 2024, and then that’s it. Gives the teams time to work out new deals for 2025.

So basically the Braves can get out of their atV deal after next season? ****. Time to sign Ohtani to maximize gross revenue!

Man.. I am not so sure we want out of this TV deal. We may have missed the boat on these huge TV deals and the Braves current contract with Bally pays quite a bit (finally).

Hope I’m wrong

I can understand about some concerns about this, but the problems that Bally is facing is pretty much of their own doing. They’ve been in bankruptcy for months now and haven’t come up with any sort of plan. Manfred has expressed frustration at them and a few teams haven’t been happy with them either. Whatever the case may be, 2024 is the last year it appears the Braves and the other teams will be on Bally, and even that’s an uncertainty.

Has any serious alternative emerged other than MLB doing the broadcasts directly and ending the blackout rules?

Not that I have seen. It’s going to be interesting to see how all these teams, the Braves included, play this after the future of Bally is determined. The Braves, with how much the team has made money wise and also with Liberty Media, it’s somewhat conceivable the Braves could do their own channel, like the Yankees, Mets, Cubs, and Dodgers have. But thanks in large part to Bally, the regional sports networks are in flux and starting one now could be a gamble.

If I remember correctly Bally wanted to make sure they made the payments to the Braves because theirs was the one that was profitable. Sonstill big demand for Braves baseball

Yes, they have done that. I think they may be Bally’s most profitable team, or one of them certainly. That, and the fact the Braves have smart people in the front office, is a reason I’m not too concerned about what happens post Bally. Just have to see how it plays out.

Part of that is probably because they were locked into a below market rate for the broadcasts. It was likely profitable for Bally since they were paying 2008 rates.

Obviously, Wednesday is a big day in regards to this whole situation. It looks like one way of the other, the Braves, along with several other teams, won’t be on Bally much longer. My suspicion is that the judge will okay the agreement and Bally will have MLB in 2024 before the separation happens. So what happens for 2025? That’s the big unknown. I think there’s a good chance the blackouts go away, because Manfred seems to dislike those as much as the fans do. I’m sure fans in Atlanta will still see the Braves on TV. The rest of the region? That’s a big question. Do the Braves start their own network? Like I said earlier, that could be a huge gamble in this broadcast climate. Syndication? Most every local channel is tied with some network affiliation, so there may not be enough stations to do that. I’m sure a DTC app will be in the works in either case.

Now if the judge does not approve that agreement, then I have no idea what will happen next and that may cause some other issues.
