Bethancourt

Some of it is reputation/expectations. La Stella was supposed to be weak defensively, and we see he has been ok so far and we're happy with that.

Bethancourt was supposed to be a defensive god, and he is not quite that and we're disappointed.

There is also the context having to do with the bat and the rest of their games that others have commented on.

I've always been of the opinion that we should trade him while his value is strong. He looks more like the other Molina brothers. It's hard to believe that he will hit. Let some other team try to find out. He looks like a longshot.

He needs to work on his defense first though, own up to that reputation and not just be another catcher. Right now his value is not there.

Having a reputation had me excited at first but more of him playing shown that his reputation is flawed or exposed. Like all of you have stated in this thread, I just don't see it as well. He is serviceable as a backup, similar to someone like Rafael Belliard, weak hitter, meh/average defensively, won't wow you, but won't hurt you terribly either.

I think he can improve on some things but some of the things he do is by habit and it might be tough to get out of said habit, framing is one of them. He is probably the best blocking catcher I seen as a Brave since Bruce Benedict as he moves side to side flawlessly but that is just one of many attributes playing that position.

I'm not sure what Rafael Belliard you were watching, but we was much better than "meh" defensively. I'd put him 3rd as Atlanta Brave defensive SS I've personally seen, behind Simmons and Yunel.

I was always under the impression that the only thing elite about CB were his pop times, and he had the tools to be an elite defensive catcher. Just like he has the tools to be productive offensively, but he isn't there yet.

Explain to me how his minor league career of never hitting is a SSS.
His stats in the minors were always poor and translate terribly to the big leagues.

SSS in the BIGS.

Yes, he hasnt hit well yet but im still not trading him.

Fredi G told CB he was the "catcher of the future" per the pregame show before he was sent down? Did I hear that right?

that quote is going to get him in trouble....even if he meant it, not smart.

Gattis is NOT an OF. 1B is full. Either he's the catcher or backup catcher. IF not he's got to go to the AL.

I don't mind Wren and Fredi pumping up Bethancourt's value by saying he is the catcher of the future. They've both said that.

Catcher of the future? Makes sense if "future" means 2018 because that's how long it will take him to learn how to hit.

Now seeing them with fresh memory ... I prefer Oso to CB as to how he frames and receives...

Can we sew CBs arm on the white bear? I think we have the technology...
