Biden Drops Out of Race

Because right now there’s **** to do before Trump just runs away with the nomination (if he hasn’t already). If you don’t think DNC leadership is going to have to answer for 2024, I think you’re being intentionally naive.

Idk the dem way is to fail upwards

HAHA - You think DNC leadership is going to pay for this? HAHAHAHAH

They'll just dangle another Trump hoax and you'll follow along and forget all about this.

But the thing here is that at least on a federal level, the only ways Dems have really failed electorally over the past ~2 decades is finding a successor for Obama and making any progress in Rural America.

How about urban america? Failed them too....

Even if I agreed with you that Republicans have a better answer, I’m talking about electoral success, which is what the DNC controls.

Electoral success really just means stealing ballots out of mailboxes.

After Afghanistan pullout was botched, was anyone fired ?

After an assassination attempt is anyone fired ?

After Mayor Pete oversaw all of the train and plane issues was anyone fired ?

Was anyone fired after the border debacle of the last 3+ years ?

Was anyone fired for covid policies ?

Gotta like Portnoys rant on this.

Just own it. The deflection, the saving democracy bs narrative is anything other than the truth. You shoved it down your voters throats and hijacked it just because you are scared ****less of Trump.

Ownership looks better, and it makes people think the "adults are back in charge"

By the way, a lot of folks said he wouldn't make it 4 years.

And some even had the gall to say the adults were back in charge LOL

**** that would get them plenty of sympathy vote. They would be announcing it from the rooftops if he actually was.

You think?

I think it makes the left seem even worse because their pushing him out there likely caused the death.

Yeah, 100% this. I can’t **** with any of the conspiracy theories about Biden not being involved in the decision, even if he was just reading the room.

Its fun to see their zombies tell us that its perfectly normal.....

I've checked out on the news and much of this section of the boards the last 18 months or so as it was detrimental to my mental health (seriously, I've been much happier focusing on other things). But this is high profile enough to hit my radar.

The Democrats had a chance here with Biden stepping down. Biden is very unpopular. You can't fight those numbers. Him giving up the nomination offered a chance to put in a much more charismatic and likable candidate. Instead they're poised to move on to Harris, one of the few politicians out there almost as unpopular as Biden.

Also, Harris is not a great candidate apart from her association with an unpopular administration. She's not a dynamic personality and she's had high profile struggles with organization and leadership.

There were several options out there with the potential of poaching moderate, largely affluent Republicans who don't care for Trump or at least swaying a battleground state. Had they picked one of them, they'd be in a much better position. Moving on to a wildly unpopular California liberal was about as dumb a move as they could have made. They might have been better sticking with Old Joe.

Same.

Not saying they're similar situations, but Biden once ran in 2008 and did poorly (in fairness he was also running against Obama and Hillary). Became VP when Obama asked him to join the ticket, and used that recognition to win in 2020.

Harris had an unsuccessful 2020 run, but she's been VP. So she does benefit from having that incumbency already. But unlike Al Gore who was following the most popular (if you go by highest approval rating when leaving office) President in modern history, Harris has been part of an administration that many Americans have been less than enthused about. 2024 is also way more politically polarized than 2000. More Moderate Republicans in blue states at the federal level, and definitely no crazy MAGA faction dominating the party.

But again, incumbency helps usually. So she may be in better position than we think.
