Bowman: Braves With Decisions To Make After Disappointing '14

I agree. Even the good deals Wren made were in the vein of "3-for-1" or "4-for-1" and let's not for get Schuerholz' disastrous "5-for-2." Those types of deals deplete the farm system and reduce margin-for-error.

IMO, the Braves need a renewed focus on scouting and player development. They have to build the farm system back up. I'd like to see less high floor/low ceiling college players and more high upside/low floor high school players. I thought they were making a step in the right direction this year when they took Davidson and Fulenchek, but they didn't use a pick on a high school player after that till they took Dykstra.

Wha??????? Both Morton and Locke are in the Pirates' rotation. I was all for the deal when it was made although I thought McLouth was consistently overrated. But that was a classic now-for-later deal and the Pirates have clearly benefited from the "later" portion of the deal and we could have used those arms.

And I agree with you on Schuerholz. He made a lot of questionable deals late in his tenure.

As the biggest Jeff Locke supporter on the board at the time, I thought it was a brilliant trade. People may just forget how terrible our CF production was. Sure McLouth sucked for us, but he was a very good player.

And Morton and Locke have been acceptable for Pittsburgh, Locke and Morton probably would have just bene used to move elsewhere. They're not better than Julio, Minor, and Wood are, or Hanson, Medlen and Beachy were before injuries dominated them

Agree. They seem to be all over the place these days. They do drafts some tools-centric, high-ceiling guys (Black, Sanchez, Lien), but they can't seem to get much out of them. They are doing alright recently in Latin America with Peraza and Albies, but they don't seem to be getting much else out of there other than some mid-range pitching that probably won't make it to the high minors, much less the majors.

I think in addition to taking a look at their draft strategy, they have to look at the minor league instructional staff. One of the strengths during the dynasty was a consistent approach for both hitters and pitchers coming up in the system. I hate bringing up Paul Snyder again and again, but I think he played a leading role in implementing a consistent teaching pattern for prospects and it showed. A team can draft any number of ways (I prefer a mixed approach looking at tools and production), but you have to get players in a position where they can apply their tools consistently.

The more the current player development guys get hammered with the things Paul Snyder did and the way he did them, the better. Perhaps they might learn something. Sometimes I feel like these guys' only hands-on experience with player development is loading the Moneyball DVD into the player.

Fredi can only manage the players that Wren gives him. Fredi can't make these guys hit. Nobody can. Having said that....I am for a total house cleaning. Everybody except for McDowell.

You are spot on that he can only mange the players he has. The problem is FG has no clue what he is doing. Having BJ leadoff for half the season, bullpen usage etc. What blew my mind was we finally seemed to figure out a nice lineup last year when Heyward got hurt and it sucked too because we were playing great. So I was so excited to see that same lineup to start the season but nope BJ at top of lineup CJ batting cleanup etc. So again you are right FG can only play the players Wren got for him, however the problem is FG had no clue how to manage those players. Letting BJ bat leadoff for almost half the season should be enough to get him fired but FG has many more issues than that.

As for Wren I was always on the fence with him because as already been said he has made some great decisions but also some bad ones and that was why I was on the fence. However if he has caused this much discord throughout the organization where some people have quit and McDowell almost left he needs to go.

Why can't McDowell be manager?

New write-up from Bowman: Major Organizational Changes May Come For Braves

http://m.braves.mlb.com/news/article/95703720/major-organizational-changes-may-come-for-braves

Column says Braves may not wait until the end of the season to make changes.

"Gonzalez has taken responsibility for the struggles the Braves have encountered during this disappointing season. But there seems to be a good chance he will be allowed a chance to remain in his role for one more season with an altered coaching staff."

Fire Wren, and hire Dayton Moore? Keep Fredi?

This is what we in the business call a Worst Case Scenario.

Trying not to overreact, so I'll just say I have no interest in spending money or time on a team run by Fredi. I know I'm not the only fan who feels this way.

No you're not, I am with you and I am also with the poster before you on Moore. Further, I wish we had someone better than Bowman and DOB covering the Braves, Bowman is among the worst IMO.

Hopefully Bowman is just speculating nonsense again as he has been wrong plenty of times in the past. I wish we could fire him along with Fredi and co.

Sometimes, it's best to clean house. We haven't had that since Ted bought the team and even Milo was cut. :) I think now is that time. we are gonna need time to be ready for the new stadium. That should begin now!

It's time for the Braves to go another direction. More should be expected of the organization. We have not won a playoff series since 2001. If we're not willing to go out and acquire better players, then we need to start the rebuilding now.

This team has quit on Fredi Gonzalez. There's no way in hell this roster could perform this badly, even with our weaknesses. If he's brought back for next year, for the first time, I'm going to have to talk myself into watching the games.

The #Braves lose 14 of 18 in September, and are eliminated. The housecleaning now begins, with hierarchy deciding who goes and who stays..
