Braves acquire Joe Jimenez from Detroit

I wasn’t the biggest Malloy fan as I’ve seen him at Tech before the Braves but a middle reliever?
Wow

Kind of an odd deal because of the one year of control. Agree that Malloy seems to be a steep price, not because Malloy is some sure thing, but because we don't have a ton of hitting prospects. Maybe our player development staff sees Malloy as a man without a defensive position, but he's only been in the OF for half a season.

Looked at Savant and Jimenez has a big fastball with big spin rate which are things this front office values highly.

very possible the Braves sold high on Malloy. this is what good later round finds can get you. really helps your bullpen

further: the phillies signed matt strahm to a 2/$15m deal. he stinks.
the Braves acquired a really good BP arm for a guy they drafted in the 6th round but performed well and upped his value. these types of deals tell you a lot about both orgs and their differences.

I know nothing about Malloy, but folks around here talk about him like he’s the next Harris. Given the track record of every single hitting prospect for the Braves over the last 5 years, he would have probably been called up in June to play LF and would have posted 3 war with an .800 ops over 400 PAs and finished 3rd in Roy voting before signing a 12 year contract for $23M.

Jimenez cut down on his BB and home runs last year and had a great season. If he figured something out he could be a very valuable arm

He very well could have but the prior season he was as bad as he was good this season.
Typical variance of a reliever.
Hopefully he keeps it going this season and doesn’t regress.

If Jimenez does really well next year, do we get a draft pick for him next offseason?

I really enjoyed following Malloy's progress, but like many said, he basically was our only position prospect.

Let's hope AA can rebuild the farm now that the sanctions and punishments are over.

So this trade should put to rest the Braves trading for Reynolds while attaching Rasorryio to the trade. Giving up Malloy for a one year reliever shows the market right now.

So the pessimist in me says we sold high on Malloy b/c we didn't have any money. Trying to replace Kenly for 3 million.

To take a point from your joke, the Braves seem to do a good job of knowing who to trade and who to keep. If they are moving on from him, I doubt Malloy is a starter. There were scouts who think he could be a starter, Klaw is one IIRC. So I'm sure he'll kill us on the trade.

I would have thought giving up our top position prospect, even if that guy isn't that good, for a one year non-stud is odd.

we would have to offer him a qualifying offer. It would likely be a really good year for us to even consider paying him that much.

Dont like giving up Malloy given he's like our only good hitting prospect but Jimenez was legit last year. Wish he had more team control but guess we could re-sign him, however the market is crazy these days.
