Braves acquire RHP Touki Toussaint & Bronson Arroyo for Filthy Phil Gosselin

Baseball America said the Dbacks have had Toussaint shelve his potential plus plus curveball this year to focus on command of his other pitches so while his stats aren't that impressive at a glance it's pretty good considering he isn't using his best pitch.

Not many teams in baseball have as many top hitting prospects as the Braves do.

Albies, Mallex, and Peraza are all exceptional prospects. The only complaint is that they're very similar skill sets. It would be nice to have a couple thumper prospects.

How many is "not many?"

To preface my next statement I am going under the assumption that the Braves will place 3 positional players on the majority of top 100 listings.

I'd guess that there won't be more than 8 teams that have 3 or more positional prospects on the top 100 listings.

Well, you're probably right about that. The list I'm most familiar with is McDaniel's, and he has 3. Braxton will get there soon, I imagine.

On the other hand, we don't have a lot of depth . . . if you look at the top 200, a lot of teams jump the line.

My impression is the other way around, that we have more than our share in the 101-200 range, but not so in the Top 100. The guys I expect to make the mid-season Top 100 lists are Wisler and Peraza. Albies has an outside shot.

On a top 200 listing I would expect the Braves to place 6 guys:

Albies
Ruiz
Davidson
Smith
Peterson
Peraza

How many teams do you think would have six positional prospects on that listing?

Well, I was talking about non-pitchers, but yeah, and to thethe's point, I agree that Peterson and Mallex are going to get in there, too.

The problem is we don't have any top 20's

I would agree with that. Not yet at least because our best long term prospects are all super young (Albies/Davidson/Allard). I know we need to get a power bat in here at some point but its just not there yet and we have ot continue to plug in productive mlb hitters in the lineup until that happens. I think we are seeing what happens when you have a lineup 1-8 of guys that aren't auto outs. Just getting on base and not striking out is producing a good offense. I'm not sure how anyone can disagree. Ina perfect world we stick a power bat behind Freeman.

Off the top of my head, no lookies, I'd guess:

Cubs
Sox
Mets
Dodgers
Rangers
Rays
Reds?

So, yeah, your point stands...if D-Pete and Mallex do indeed crack those lists.

That's one in a row for you, Wild Bill. ;-)

I don't see the Mets getting that many:

Nimmo
Conforto
Dominick Smith
Rosario
Cechini (maybe)

Cubs are graduating a lot of their players. Red Sox absolutely, they are loaded with positional guys. Not to familiar with the other teams honestly.

Edit: For the Mets I could see Beccera getting in there actually.

Cubs will absolutely be graduating guys. For the spirit of the discussion, though, you can hardly discount them for that fact.
