Braves Acquire Robinson Cano

Sometimes you can catch a hot hand and ride it for a couple weeks. Cano is as good a bet as anyone to have that hot streak.

Not exactly the stopgap at 2B I was hoping for, but they may as well give him a shot for a bit.

Probably works well if Snitker will ACTUALLY use Cano and Arcia in a strict platoon - unfortunately we know what the chances of that happening are.

I assume gosselin is done

Why?

Ford can be optioned whenever Cano is activated and Cano can act as the backup 1B.

No reason to DFA Gosselin until you actually have to - it's a much smarter play to keep Gosselin around since he gives you A TON more positional flexibility than Ford (plus he can actually hit a little).

I don't think this is worth getting worked up over, but guys, come on, let's be real. Cano is 39 years old and he's been absolutely terrible for two different teams this year, which is what you would expect from a 39-year-old second baseman who recently missed an entire season on a PED suspension. The likeliest possible outcome -- and I mean by far the likeliest possible outcome -- is that he's just flat out toast and can't play baseball any more. We can talk about this being a low-risk acquisition all we want, but that's the risk -- a team with championship aspirations gives meaningful at-bats to a guy who can't play baseball.
