Pretty fair trade. Braves give up a decent prospect that is a long ways away for a bench guy and a loogy. obviously, the Braves lose the trade if Caratini does anything in the majors, but it's worth the risk to get ever so slightly better.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bonafacio plays LF, Heyward to CF and J. Upton to RF late in the year/playoffs.
Carantini is a much better catcher than Gattis and has world's more offensive upside than Bethancourt. He's in the mold of a Brian McCann Jorge Posado type catcher.
Against lefties. Even BJ hits better than him against righties.
Maybe when you include OPS. Bonafacio still hits for a better average against RH(at least he has the last two years).
Maybe when you include OPS? As if BA somehow holds more weight than OPS? Has this board regressed yet again in terms of baseball statistics IQ?
Not sure if I like this trade. We'll be better off this year but we just lost our best 3B prospect.
This is a very good trade for the Braves.
First off, Caratini is hardly a world beater. He's a decent prospect but our evaluators do NOT see him sticking behind the plate long-term. He's likely a 3B in the future, and he projects as an average one at that (offensively). I'm not saying that doesn't have value, but our scouts had some doubts as to whether he would be able to fully develop sufficient power. If he even makes it (which is a long shot), he's likely a .700-.750 OPS 3B in a above-average scenario.. that's got value, but you have to discount it for present value.
If Peraza comes up, we could trade Johnson and install LaStella or Peraza at 3B and not miss a beat.
I don't know if the presence of Edgerton or Bello changed anything vis-a-vis Caratini.
I like this trade and I'm glad the Braves at least tried to address some of the holes. I'd love to see Bonifacio in there every day against lefties, whether at CF or 2B. Russell is no great shakes but it's another arm for the bullpen

You guys are up in arms over Caratini? Victor Caratini? GTFO Braves fans.
