Braves calling up Michael Kohn and John Cornely

Bowman recognizes that "facts" are unnecessary for truly great reporting.

The next thing you know, Bowman is going to be reporting that the Braves have called up John Connor.

Now, that would be a 'more interesting narrative'.

This almost certainly means that Sugar Ray is [insert boxing metaphor]. The other move will be interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing Gosselin optioned down and go with an 8 man pen for a while. Also possible that someone hits the DL.

Yeah, some people have been pitching like they belong on the DL.

What's the record for most pitchers used during a season by a MLB club? I might be wrong but I believe the Reds just broke the record recently, but we just might pull it off this year.

If we're really playing for 2017 then just look at 2015 like an extended spring training. Lots of innings to evalute prospects.

Bowman could really punch up the Dickensian aspect of two lone waifs making their way from Norfolk to Philly, meeting colorful and unscrupulous types, sleeping in the car, maybe there's reason to believe they're eating out of dumpsters . . . who know?

Running into that kid from The Talisman, getting pulled into Mid-World, maybe even meeting a gunslinger or two....

Siphoning gas from abandoned wrecks, scavenging spare parts and fending off raiders and varmints in the ruins of the I-95 corridor.

Actual synsopsis of Kohn and Cornely's Big Adventure:

Rented a car. Took the interstate. Filled the tank. Grabbed some White Castle. Talked about getting laid. Arrived in Philly.

I'm surprised we haven't heard more about Cornely. He's had some impressive stats over the last few years and it seems like his control has improved.

@mlbbowman

Kohn and Cornely have arrived in Philadelphia. They flew, but the drive from Norfolk would have provided a more interesting narrative.

Seriously, how the **** does this man have a job?

Just think of all the burger joints between Norfolk and Philly. Its a self insertion fantasy.

I half way expected Martin to be sent down to stretch out his arm in order to replace Cahill sooner rather than later.

Cunniff and Sugar Ray optioned to Gwinnett

Anyone else a little surprised at Cunniff?

This makes sense given the Kohn and Cornely are both righties. Further, Cunniff looks like more a righty specialist so not really needed with Kohn and Cornely being recalled. Plus Cunniff needs a break more than anything and the only way to keep him away from Fredi is to option him down (Fredi will have him warming up every day if he'd stayed here, that's how he broke our last righty specialist in fact).

That said, congrats to both Kohn and Cornely. Hopefully both will do great and not be broken by Fredi. :)

PS: Cunniff was tied for the MLB lead in appearances before being optioned today.

Well, that's when you have the absolute worst manager at the helm at bullpen management. Don't get me wrong, the starters haven't exactly helped the situation recently, but still Cunniff is getting sacraficial arm treatment like so many before have under Fredi like Gearrin, Avilan, Venters, O'Flaherty, Linebrink, Varvarro.

Poor Gearrin, his entire career was ruined in a 3 week stretch. Could have been a good situational righty, those guys generally stick awhile like Moylan, Steve Reed, etc.

Gearrin is exactly who I had in mind above, he was also a righty specialist. And like Gearrin I've already noted Fredi warming up Cunniff even in the games he doesn't come into, so while Cunniff appeared in 10-15 games he warmed up for probably almost all of them. Hopefully Hart was watching that and said damn I gotta option this kid down just to save him from having TJS after the first month of his MLB career.

I've discussed the need for a sacrificial lamb in the pen before. It shouldn't be anyone valuable. We are going to need a sacrificial lamb more than ever this season. Marimon would be a good choice. Guys like Kohn, Cunniff and Cornely might have value down the line and I would not use them as sacrificial lambs, especially in a season where our goal is to just be "palatable."

I agree the team needs one and that someone like Marimon is ideal, but Fredi prefers to break our better bullpen options and that's the problem. But what do I know I'm still mad about Heyward, er, Venters. :)

Since we are not competing for anything this season, there is no need to abuse an arm that might help us when the games start mattering again.
