Braves close to signing Callaspo

Projects as a 0.9 WAR player. Considering the going rate per win is around 8 million this isnt bad if he reaches that,

The thing about 2017 is that the players we have now will be a lot more expensive then. I projected payrolls thru 2017 and just keeping what we have now will put payroll in the 120's. We should be trying to win now while Teheran/Wood/Miller/Simmons/Minor/Kimbrel are cheap.

Good thing we traded our best player who hasn't yet entered his prime.

(I know, beating a dead horse. This horse needs some more beating, though.)

WAR sucks and this is why. No way El Puerco is worth $7.2m. The dude OPSed .580 last year.

Maybe this is one of those "plus or minus a WAR" situations the Fielding Bible talks about.

Last year he wasn't worth that considering he was a negative war player. However his projected line is 252/326/353 - 679 with average defense at 3rd and 2nd. Not a good year by any stretch but it's not horrible either.

Source: Callaspo 1 yr, $3M with #Braves plus $1M in performance incentives.

seems like a good deal to me....Braves saying 2B. But you have to think he just warms it until Peraza can gain an extra yr of control and then he's eating into CJ's time.

I think CJ gets traded and Callaspo is the 3B from the start with Gosselin or Pastor at 2nd until Peraza is ready. They are saying 2B to try and not seem desperate to get rid of CJ.

$3 mil could end up being a nice steal. Not every player is a star, 0 veterans making $3 mil are stars. He's a much *better option/gamble than Doumit was.

Depending how he does, could flip him at the deadline if they trade CJ.

How is paying a guy who couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag, $3MM, a steal? Damn

If he hits anything like he's done for a majority of his full seasons and plays 2B, 3B, and eventually becomes a bench guy, he's worth $3 mil. It's not like he's never hit before, and $3 mil for one year is pennies today in the MLB.

3 mil in todays game isnt much at all.

The way contracts are.

And just for 1 year, not a long-term guarantee.
