Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

It's not really surprising that some people are still bitter over easily the most popular Brave and most hyped prospect we've had since Andruw/Chipper being traded. Also considering he's only 25, we've not even seen all that's to come.

Overhyped prospect. This isn't sour grapes at him being traded. It wasn't unreasonable for the FO to want to see him healthy for a one season and display some consistency while not spending time on the DL. Yeah, we get that the broken jaw wasn't his fault, but the dude has never put it all together. You can all believe whatever you want that's posted on Twitter, but he and his agent most likely will attempt to cash with the impending free agency. When/If that happens, there won't be any crow eating about the return on this deal.

Per MLB trade rumors

stin Upton might be the best hitter on the market, but that’s not the only reason teams want him, writes Jon Heyman of CBSSports. With one year and $14.5MM remaining on his contract, Upton is a financial steal. If a team acquires him this offseason, they’ll also be looking at a free draft pick when he declines their qualifying offer. He’s in his physical prime at 27 years old, and he’s a former number one overall pick. Heyman lists the Royals, Tigers, Mariners, Orioles, and Padres as possible destinations. We can expect the Braves to receive a notable player in return – after all, they netted Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins for Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden.

More I think, I 100% don't want him dealt.

Sources: #Mariners serious about Melky. They want him.

Questionable wording aside, can't help but wonder if this is blatant posturing from Seattle.

If you want to get Braves staff & fans miffed, who better to use as a decoy than Melky?

A bit odd to see 2B listed as a return since I thought we we're just looking for a stop-gap on the FA market. Maybe they're looking for more controllable options that can help at 3B once Peraza is ready.

#Braves still have not heard deal like for J.Upton. Prioritizing SP, 2b. #Royals #Rangers #Padres #Indians all remain interested

There seems to be a belief that Peraza could be used as the long term CF option as well. This gives the Braves more flexibility as to the type of return they are going to ask for with Upton.

Kinda surprised O's aren't on that list. They have lost a lot of offense.

In addition to the teams that Sherman has mentioned, I've seen SEA, SF, DET, and BAL included as possible suitors by other writers over the past couple weeks. Some reported destinations make more sense than others.

Just lock up Upton and trade Gattis

I support this statement. Gattis should be able to bring in a kings ransom considering his contract and power from the right side. As a DH he should be able to hit 35+ HR's on a somewhat regular basis.

I really cannot disagree. He would be perfect for a lot of teams, and we don't need to be hiding a catcher in LF. I'd much rather sign Justin and move Gattis. I think we could get 2-3 useful pieces for Gattis.

Why is center field never mentioned as a need or something we are seeking out?

I would love to make a deal with the Royals. Something like Justin for Jarrod Dyson, Christian Colon, and a good prospect like Hunter Dozier or Miguel Almonte. Not the s exist deal but I like the idea of pairing Dyson and Peraza at the top of the lineup. They could steal 100+ bases combined. Colon I think will be a great utility player and from what I understand is good at the small ball parts of the game. He can start at second until Peraza is ready. The prospect we can keep or flip for Dexter Fowler. Also would take Wade Davis instead of a prospect of we could.
