lhp max fried, ss jace peterson, 3b dustin peterson, of mallex smith going to braves for justin upon and low-level player

Lol we couldn't even dump Johnson to a team that needs a 3b

2014 Padres BA rankings . . .

@BravesReddit
Fried #3
Peterson #7
Dustin #10

AND Mallex Smith (.327/.414/.475 in A+ ball)

I really hate that we picked up a pitcher who went under the knife but Peterson sounds like he could develop into a hell of a leadoff hitter. Almost seems like they are trying to replace Peraza because another team really wants him.

Mallex Smith, an undersized OF going back to Atlanta, is very interesting. Blazing speed (88 SB last season) and hit over .300 in A ball.

Fried blew out his arm, and Dustin Peterson was NOT ranked #10. Per the BA handbook I have right here, he was #22. And then he was terrible for a whole 'nother year.

Mallex didn't even make the top 30, but he did have a good year.

Basically, all these rankings are not a good reflection of current reality.

Need to research these prospects more to form a final opinion, but my gut reaction is that we did better than I thought we would for Justin. I like the approach of going for prospects here versus another Shelby Miller type deal.

yes. i would much rather gamble on the "future" than gamble on the lifeless "premium" talent we had.

I'd rather we have guys that were "good" than guys who are possible contributors in the "future" and/or have blown up "elbows."

I love that we are targeting speed guys honestly. Still wish we would have gotten another pitcher but hopefully he comes back strong in 2016.

Jace Pederson is a v. good get for the Braves. That package ends up being an awful lot for 1 year of Justin Upton & still miss the playoffs.

I think we went with quantity instead of quality which is rarely a good thing
