Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

:happy0157:

Doesn't it seem crazy to bank so much on a system-wide focus on speed when we are perhaps the worst organization when it comes to baserunning? Every good baserunner who comes here takes a step or two backward.

Maybe that's why Heywood's WAR was so high? Best baserunner I've ever seen.

Very excited to be a part of the @Braves family . Can't wait to get started and meet my teammates and the fans!!#ATL #whatupbraves

Has to be one of the best overall for the Braves in recent history. I expect him to steal 30+ with the Cardinals.

Don't think the Cardinals want to risk him getting injured stealing bases (his body is so huge). They know his real value is defensively, and to make him into a middle of the order hitter instead of wasting him like we were.

You could be right. Depends on whether they are keeping him after this year. If not, I imagine they will just improve the player he is right now and push him hard.

My quick thoughts.

We arent competing this year, even if we had Justin and Jason, so it had to be done.

I'd ship out Gattis and CJ as well.

I'd trade CJ for anything just to get his deal off the books.

Gattis' value will never be any higher, so trade him now.

Minor at the deadline if he rebuilds his value.

They wont get enough for Kimbrel so just keep him.

#Braves acquire four prospects and an international bonus pool slot from Padres in exchange for Justin Upton and Aaron Northcraft

Its not a great haul, but expecting a Walker or the other stud prospects for ONE year of Upton was wishful thinking.

If you know they wont re-sign, its best to restock the system.

I dont like that Fried is fried for this year.

Yup. So imagine how craptastic we will be without them.

And we should have kept them, miss the playoffs, and watch both walk to big markets for nothing but a comp-pick?

These were moves that had to be done, the returns werent great but for 1-yr of control, not bad.
