Braves in talks with DBacks for Trevor Cahill

How many other "3" pitchers make more than $13m per year?

It will all depend on how well he bounces back if at all but there will be quite a few pitchers who get paid more than him that wouldn't be as good in my scenario. and again....inflationm

Can you name me a few pitchers who make more than $13m who are worse? Just some examples

He wouldn't just simply be bouncing back, but he would have to become a pitcher he's never been.

Matt Cain
Tim Lincecum
John Danks
Edwin Jackson

I could see Cahill ending the year far more valuable than those four guys.

Right... and 3 of those guys are terrible and would not be able to get a top 50 prospect. thethe's statement was that "$13M for #3 pitchers is under market value... and I'm not buying it... $13M is a lot of cash

AAV of $13.75.

So you think if Cahil puts up 3 months of Ervin Santana production (3.39 FIP), he would be considered for a top 50 prospect?

Who else makes that much?

You are such a scutch....santana was off the top of my head. Why are you so damn belligerent?

I looked for you... I was really surprised to hear that #3 pitchers are consistently making more than $13M so I wanted you to back that up... Here we go

1. Kershaw - $30
2. Scherzer - $30
3. Lester - $26
4. Verlander - $26
5. Cain - $26
6. Felix - $25
7. Grienke - $25
8. Lee - $24
9. Hamels - $24
10. Sabathia - $23
11. Tanaka - $22
12. Price - $20
13. Wainwright - $20
14. Shields - $19
15. Lincecum - $18
16. Bailey - $18
17. Weaver - $17
18. A Sanchez - $16
19. CJ Wilson - $16
20. Buehrle - $15
21. E Sanatana - $14

Those are all the pitchers making AAV of over $13M. If most #3s are making that much, then there would be a heck of a lot more. Also, I see him maybe being able to be better than Buehrle & Lincecum. Maybe

Point is... let's temper the expectations a bit. He'd have to had a studly year for a team to pick up that option

Sanchez & Ryu are both significantly better pitchers than Cahil.

Keep in mind we got him for basically nothing.

Right, it's a buy low/sell high move.

If Roger can work his magic on him, we can maybe get something for him, most likely not a top 50 prospect.

But high quality pitching comes pricy.

Going forward #3 starters are likely to make around 13 million a year. That's pretty much the rate for a 2-3 WAR pitcher which is what I would equate a #3 starter to. Cahill has had two seasons that fit that bill.
