Braves interested in CK and DK

I'd be fine with Kimbrel, we'll need to skip Fried/Soroka some to limit their innings but not sure where Dallas would fit in.

Also Will Smith and Bumgarner would cost a LOT in a trade. Bumgarner off name and playoff pedigree will bring in the Giants a good haul from someone. Not sure i want AA doing that for a possible rental.

I don't want Keuchel.

Can't we just trade for Bumgarner and then try to keep him here for another 3-4 years? Perfect type of guy at the perfect time. I'm not expecting anything other than a high end 3 or a low 2 but he would be great to have around the kids.

I will drop the coin and save the assets any day of the week.

I'd be absolutely livid if we ended up paying an unnecessary premium in a Bumgarner/Smith trade when you had comparable value still left on the market. It would be exceedingly dumb. It would be even dumber to pay that premium and then buying out their decline years.

If we trade for the Giant's reliever(s), fine. If we trade for Bumgarner, fine. But we absolutely should not pay more than what they are worth simply because they have name recognition. I'll leave moves like that to the dumb teams in baseball.

Like who? Who you think is gonna pay a premium just bc of a name? I don't think that's gonna happen.

I'm a fan of the first option. Bumgarner is the most impactful player out of that grouping.

LOL...

Bumgarner is only a marginal upgrade over Teheran, assuming Folty is figuring things out. Unless someone gets hurt or is shut down, he isn’t an appreciable upgrade over the internal options.

The fact you want to trade for Bumgarner and extend him further into his decline years aligns you with the thought process of the resident sales engineer genius. Think about that...

I'm not sure what you are seeing or analyzing that only states Bumgarner is a 'marginal' upgrade but when healthy its not even a discussion. My belief is that Bumgarner has had a lot of fluky things that have slowed down the last 2 seasons. Coupled with a horrid Giants team and you have the recipee for down years. Yes, age is an issue that needs to be considered but being now a longer period of time since his last injury Bumgarner is starting to perform at 3.5 WAR player. I think there is more in the tank.

I agree with not giving up a premium prospect. I'm fine with thinning some of the depth guys if we get one of their relievers.

I'm looking at stats that are actually predictive and approximate the types of stats modern FOs use to evaluate pitchers. You know, stats like xwOBA that tell us Bumgarner and Teheran are both performing like MLB average #4s (.322 vs .323).

I realize you have no idea how to analyze these things, but Bumgarner is a 'marginal' upgrade over anyone in the rotation now, assuming Folty is getting back to what we expect him to be.Unless someone gets hurt or is shut down due to innings limit, Bumgarner doesn't represent enough of an upgrade to warrant the cost.

Kimbrel, on the other hand, needs to happen as long as he doesn't require a multi-year deal.

Would much prefer Bumgarner to Keuchel. Keuchel is 2 years older and hasn't seen any game action since last fall. You'd have to think it'd take close a month to get him ready, right? Plus Bumgarner has a pretty good postseason track record (tho Keuchel isn't bad).

FIP:

Madbum 2019 - 3.61
Keuchel 2018 - 3.69
Teheran 2019 - 4.29

Julio has been pitching pretty well this season overall, though he could certainly regress at any point. I guess the plan would end up being keeping him in the rotation, and then mixing in some phantom DL stints for Fried and Soroka

I'm fine with MadBum as long as it's minimal prospects. Want zero part in giving him an extension though. Kuechel also would be nice as long as it's short deal. I'd easily offer both CK and CK upwards of 7 million for the remaining portion of 2019 if they'd take that.

Make a package of Gausman/Duvall/Wentz and hope that is the high point of other offers that are made.

I like you. You know I like you. But that package is madness.

I don't like the idea of just Wentz for Bumgarner, although that's probably a reasonable price, but Gausman will probably be worth more than Bumgarner by himself this year, at a lower price.
