Braves not serious on my Bday GDT

AA just said on 680 the Fan that the Braves will not be selling at the Trade Deadline, says Sale is off limits and that he's trying to make an early deadline deal to show he's committed improving the team.

Uhhh.... Francoeur.

That's routine imo
You are using Francoeur as reference? A guy that was notably a terrible defender? GTFOH

Again, do you even know what those numbers mean and how they are derived? Watch the replay again. See where Acuna had to start from. See how fast he was going when he made the dive. You are clueless if you think that was a routine play. That isn't to say no one else could have made the play. Acuna has a history of making plays harder than they need to be. But that doesn't mean this was a routine play.

Francoeur career dWAR (BR) = -0.5
Acuna career dWAR (BR) = -1.9

Francoeur career dWAR (BR) = -0.5
Acuna career dWAR (BR) = -1.9

1. That doesn't take away from the point I made. Francoeur was objectively a terrible defender whose defensive stats were buoyed largely because of an amazing arm. Relying on his word to judge what is routine or not is like relying on Nick Allen for hitting advice.

2. Do you understand defensive stats from 20 years ago are inferior to defensive stats today? It's likely Frenchy's stats would look MUCH worse with advanced defensive stats to pull from. Not to mention, Ronnie spent a significant amount of time in CF earlier in his career, which his overall dWAR won't differentiate from.

3. Even accounting for that, UZR has Frenchy at -29.2 range factor in 11k innings in RF. Acuna is currently -5.4 in 3800 career innings in RF, largely brought down by his poor performances in 2023 and 2024, which was post surgery. And let's be honest, most us assume Acuna was likely playing through the knee injury suffered in ST of last year, which resulted in his overall performance before another torn ACL.

This argument stopped having any relevance and just became silly a while ago. Neither of you are going to give up, so I guess it will be a battle to the bitter end.😀🤔

Would the Nats trade MacKenzie Gore? I was wanting him in the draft but he went right before our pick. He's controlled for 3 more years after this one and the Nats are going nowhere anytime soon.

First impressions are hard to break... I saw Acuna's first game in AA at Pearl, ms. He hit everything like it was shot out of a rocket. He also took 2 horrible routes in CF at that time. I knew then that he was a certain MLB player, but wouldn't stick in CF at all. That first impression has always tainted me on his defense.

I just happened to look up just now and they were showing the exact replay of that play on MLBTV-
In no way was that play routine- I don’t even think many people could have even gotten close enough to the ball to make a dive at it. Acuna was hauling ass to get there. I don’t think even Harris, for example, would have been close enough to even have a shot.
So while it looks like he coulda, shoulda, maybe caught it - reality is very few would have even had the chance…

Maybe not routine, but that ball was in the air forever. Acuna clearly misjudged the ball, and didn‘t pick up his pace until it was too late. It’s a play a good RF needs to make
