Braves pay to remove Odor. Bring back Allard

The manner by which the Braves traded Jake Odorizzi makes a little more sense given this information:

Those escalators also increased the size of the buyout on his option from $3.25 million to $6.25 million. By meeting all of the thresholds and maxing out his potential salary, his decision to exercise his option became an easy decision. To make things even sweeter, his player option for ‘23 also includes a number of performance bonuses that could increase his total salary to a maximum of $15.5 million.

That contract caveat means the Braves are definitely saving $2.5m in 2023, but could end up saving as much as $5.5m. I still think this move doesn't tell us much about the team's overall salary intentions for next season, but it looks like there was a little more money on the line that it initially appeared.

I don't feel like the move was salary related at all TBH. If it was, we would have found someone else to take him, rather then send out $10m. A team like Baltimore, Washington, etc. would have probably taken him with less cash sent over.

Which makes you think they feel they can do something with Allard to turn him into a useful LHP reliever on the cheap, plus save $2.5–$5.5m in 2023. FG notes Allard's K rates spiked on all his pitches last season, even while he hung a huge ERA in limited big-league action; his principal problem was results when batters did make contact, with way too many balls ending up over the fence.

I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see how AA gets rid of Ozuna. To me, that is probably holding up other moves.

We dont really have that much to do, if we're not gonna add a top tier starter. Maybe a lefty for the bullpen. But really just need to figure out SS, and probably LF. But i am interested to see what happens with Ozuna as well.

I think AA is already gonna get one of the big SS but if he could get rid of Ozuna and possibly Rosario I could see him going possibly after deGrom too.

Highly doubt we're in on DeGrom. Can maybe see a bullpen arm that actually costs money, one of the bigtime SS', and an outfielder if we shed money.
