Bleh, not crazy about this move. I like Jimenez ok, but that seems pricey for what he is.
The contract is generally in line with those for other non-closer relievers in recent years. Rafael Montero got three years and $34.5MM from the Astros, Taylor Rogers three years and $33MM from the Giants, while Kendall Graveman got three years and $24MM from the White Sox.
There's a trend of AA fixating on random players and valuing them more than you'd expect.
Giving up a draft pick to sign Will Smith to 3 yr deal.
Giving Drew Smyly $11 million out of nowhere.
Trading Malloy for Jimenez and then doubling down on 3 yr deal.
It does seem a little high but he got better as the year went on. AA has always liked the guy. Wish it would have been for 2 years instead but I trust AA. Get another elite arm out there next.
AA is mostly just spending more money to bring back a BP that was pretty good in 2023. While I admit to holding out hope for more impact arms, it’s hard to be anything but content with these contracts.
The good news is these aren’t the types of moves made by a team with limited resources. These are moves made by a team with plenty of cash to spend.

I am expecting Nicky Lopez to be next…
