Braves sign Jonny Gomes

I just love broken records that come back to life every time some of us disagree with Heyward, Matt, thethe and co. Wouldn't it be so great if we all just saw things exactly as they do? What a great utopia that could turn into! Screw forming your own opinion, that makes no one happy! And it's time to get happy, will it kill us to get happy?! Come on home boys, we gotta get happy or else we'll continue to make it miserable for Heyward, Matt, thethe and co.

The broken record reactions isn't coming from the "homer" side.

Not for certain, but we took a flawed team and removed most of its strengths and very few of its weaknesses.

I think one of huge weaknesses last year was swing and miss guys and we have added a little more contact oriented hitters into the lineup. My hope is Seitzer shows he has some value and we see small incremental improvements from BJ/CJ/Tron/CB. Not crazy leas but maybe 5-10% improvements in OBP. Then you a productive LF platoon as well as good years from Freeman and Markakis. We know the pitching will be good. I think it will be enough for mid 70s and if we get a big breakout from someone we could snack higher although I'm not expecting it. What I am expecting is a team as good as last years.

Even if his defense sucks, it seems like a lot of guys play solid defense for us.

When I say solid I don't mean great range and he's going to be a vacuum, just seems most guys are a bit more sure handed with us. Chris Johnson may not have range, but he still can pick most of what comes near him and throw guys out.

Since we're not planning on competing for a ring, at least some of the games will be watchable.

With our starting pitching and bullpen, we will be in a lot of games. Im not writing off this season just yet, and those lineups dont look pretty on paper, but anything can happen. We will have to be one of those scrappy teams who wins a lot of close games with clutch hitting.

Hate to break this to you but unless Peraza breaks camp with the team or Freddie grows a brain. Peterson will platoon with CJ and Callaspo with those 2 getting the bulk of playing time. I've read too many times about Callaspo playing 2B for it not to be a big sign from management that Callaspo is in their minds a MLB starting 2B.

I can't help but feel sorry for Freeman. Reminds me of that little league team with 1 good player surrounded by nerds.

We signed Gomes for his "passion." Give me a break.
Going at it with DOB on twitter right now over it.

Terdo better be in the LF platoon or not on the 25 man roster. If he proved anything when he was up in 2013 it was that he couldn't pinch hit to save his life.

At least he can fight and don't put up with crap. Him and Prickzinski will be a good fight. Fredi has his hands tied with those two.

Gomes' vesting option has escalators. Pretty doubtful his role will allow him to get to 425 PA, but vesting with 325 PA seems likely if he stays healthy.

Re: Gomes' vesting option for '16 with Atl. He receives $3m at 325 PA, $3.5m at 425 PA and $4m at 500 PA. Per source.
