Braves sign Mac Attack, 1 yr 2 million deal

Underwhelming, at this point in the off-season, with so many better catching options still out there.

So Realmuto is likely not happening. Have to go all in for an elite corner OF bat, or our offense is not going to be very good.

Brantley/cutch LF
Acuna rf
Ff 1b
Donaldson 3b
Albies 2b
Ender cf
Flowers/McCann c
Swanson SS

Camargo getting lots of ABs too

Would think this was a value signing and would likely signal a larger move to solidify the OF. Also 3b?

I wouldn't think we would make this move, this soon if we didn't have something laid out with other teams on trades.

This tells me...
1. They think Contreras will be ready by next year.
2. Marlins are either unrealistic on trade value and/or just refuse to trade to the Braves unless they rape us.
3. It still doesn’t keep them from adding another catcher...Bmac would be a great bench bat (depending on what we are paying him).

AA might just be calling in a bluff (s) also. Maybe other guys were too high either on the trade market or free agent market, and thought the could stick it to us.

Still leaves us with the option to go after Realmuto when the stupid Fish get reasonable with their asking price

This is pretty disappointing. I felt like we had the options to make a tangible improvement at catcher without breaking the bank. Hopefully this means that we'll be spending bigger on the outfield and on bench depth.

I tend to think along this line on this deal. Can BMac be an okay bench piece....maybe...will he help our pitching staff that is young...possibly....But if we are signing him to essentially be this years version of Zuk/Flowers, then there has to be another move out there that we don't see coming.

I'm thinking that we may be going after a bigger option in cOF. Maybe spending big in the bullpen, or like others have mentioned, maybe a Donaldson addition?

I've felt all along that McCann or Suzuki on a one-year deal for 5M or less was a good option for us at catcher.

We have to keep in mind that saving at catcher (whether in terms of $ or prospect capital) allows for bigger upgrades elsewhere.

With the loss of Suzuki and potential losses of Markakis and Sanchez, the Council of Elders did need some reinforcement.

McCann, I don’t believe, will be the #1 catcher. That will be Flowers. While Brian wasn’t my first choice, this is a low risk move. Perhaps he can give some pointers from his time in Houston.

Barring injury, my guess is they will split playing time 50-50.
