With Jason, Justin, and Ugglas money off the books next year, we could afford a good OF in Free Agency.
Lol. Sue me for being ambiguous.
Jason was NEVER present at any meeting with Casey Close -- last year or this offseason. Stanton's rumored (and then signed) contract is a precedent Casey chose to cling to (and why wouldn't he). Obviously no one - including Casey - valued Jason at the same figure as Stanton, but 260m seemed reasonable given where salary escalation is going to Casey. That wasn;'t the same eval the Braves FO had. The end result was 260+ for his camp; and we were under 200. Those are the final numbers-- which resulted in no offer.
I could give a damn whether you or anyone else chooses to believe me. I could care less, in fact. Have fun with your continued bitchfest. It's not worth my time.
Like Jason Heyward?

I love how some go at lengths to defend the front office. To me their overall body of work this offseason shows no clear plan.
And it's not just recently popular either. There are certain posters that defend everything they do and blindly believe it is correct.
You continued to escalate how much he asked for based on the situation. Perhaps you know someone in the FO. Perhaps they're telling you these things. Perhaps they have a reason for doing that. I'll trust the player, that I believe wanted to stay, that they hadn't talked contract in quite a while. He would presumably know that, whether he was present or not.
This cracks me up.
Who do you want to sign? For how much? Will we get a "good OF" for a huge bargain? Good OF cost money. The whole point is that Heyward is a better risk than almost any other realistic option. But, we blew that.
No, hopefully an older OFer for ~$18 mil a year for 6 years, with the back-end of the deal almost definitely being bad for the team.
Why do you care, you like the Cards now, shouldnt you be on their board?
Jesus christ you and others act like we traded away Mike Trout.
This cracks me up.

- Cool ethnic name.
Since you're also a Yankees fan, why don't you go play on the Yankees board or stick your head up Swisher's arss.
Oh wait I forgot your boy Swisher is busy stinking it up in Cleveland now, lol.
What a strange post.
We will have removed in excess of 28 mill from the books. That might get you Heyward if Close doesn't insist on the opt out.

According to some posters, that surplus will be negated by raises in arbitration and built-in salary increases.
