Braves trade David Hale and Gus Schlosser for...

44 percent of potential base stealers is impressive. Regardless of the level that's an awesome figure. However two guys who have ML experience and at times showed they can pitch in the bigs for two unknown prospects is par for the course this front office has done on the back 9.

Hale is arguably better than any option we have for the #5 slot, and he's young and cheap. I don't get it.

Saw Briceno several times last year. Similar to Bethancourt's defensive upside with some improved footwork - guy's got a cannon. Definitely more selective than Christian at this point, but McCormick Field typically skews offensive numbers a bit. Nice pick up.

Should answer the question about what the organization felt about Hale - he'll probably be useful out of their pen with the sinker, but wasn't really part of the future here.

The way everyone gets hard ons for defense around here you would think this guy would be getting some hype from the Chop Country faithful that watched he who would not be mentioned shipped out. :pound:

Maybe they want less competition for the 5th starting pitcher? It's hard to explain what goes through the front office members minds. I used that term "minds" extremely loosely.

Yep, plus he's improved a lot since adding the sinker. Just look at his numbers starting last year, very good. Plus he is cheap a while and not a free agent till 2020.

This looks like a steal for Colorado IMO.

I think they saw a chance to ship off a VERY replaceable player for a prospect more aimed toward 2017 in case C Beth flops. We have NO catcher talent in the milb clubs...

I like it.

I really like the trade. Thought we were pretty thin at the C position behind Bethancourt. Could give us an opportunity to trade Bethancourt down the road as well.

Don't really care about losing a couple of AAAA pitchers

I actually kinda like this one, though I admittedly wasn't as high on Hale as some on the board seem. Briceno is a solid prospect at a position of need, IMO. I have major concerns with Bethancourt so I'm happy to have another reasonable option in the pipeline.

Fangraphs has Briceno rated as 45 FV. For sake of comparison, here are the other prospects in our system that Fangraphs has as 45 FV: Braxton Davidson, Tyrell Jenkins, Manny Banuelos, Arodys Vizcaino, Mallex Smith, Jason Hursh, Shae Simmons, Mauricio Cabrera, Garrett Fulenchek.

I was Hale's biggest critic here. This move doesn't get me all up in arms, but it's peculiar to say the least. So Wandy and Stultz are our options for the 5th starter now? I am sure maybe one of the younger guys can step in and challenge either of those two.

Yea, adding all these catchers sure seems to tell us that Bethancourt isn't thought of as highly as the hype suggests. We have too many catchers now too so some will need to be cut or traded as you cannot have this many in AA/AAA, etc.

Does anyone else think the team over estimated Gattis' skills as a replacement for McCann ??

Cost Wren his job ??
