Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

We traded Marte and kept Francoeur. Traded Heyward and kept Freeman. I see a pattern here with the good ole boys club.

I think this was a good move. Miller and Jenkins have high upsides. This will look better after 2015 when we have these two and Heywood signs for 300 million. One thing to remember is that Wainwright had several injury plagued years before getting to the majors. Jenkins could be our Wainwright. It's not likely but he has that kind of upside.

I hate this as a fan of Heywood, I was following him back when he was just a junior in high school. I am going to hold out hope he pulls a Kenny Lofton in the Cards.

I'd like to start this post by saying I'm not thrilled with the return, I would have liked to see a higher rated prospect coming back. And I love Heyward, he's my favorite player, I have his jersey, and I've always defended him. But let's face it, he probably wasn't signing here and he may never be the hitter we all thought he would be. Miller and a high upside spect isn't an awful return for one year of a guy who may never put it all together offensively. I wish we were made of money and could have offered him a huge deal, but we're not. Plain and simple. Do I love the trade? No. Heck I don't even like it, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as people are trying to make it out to be.

Now with that being said if we trade JUP and Gattis as well, as rumored, I don't see how well even be competitive by 2017 like they want. I hate to say it but I'd prolly trade Gattis too though, since his value will not be as high if he's not catching, and I get the feeling the front office wants Bethancourt catching. Jup should be locked up though. Freddie will need another top level hitter in the lineup with him.

evan gattis.

huge win here for the braves. i know you all loved jhey but you'll quickly forget about him when gattis is hitting 30 home runs and miller has 15 wins come next october. meanwhile heyward will finish another 12 home run season and will be asking for the moon in a new contract.

Evan Gattis? He'll last 80 games in the outfield and probably put up Mike Morse level defense. And, putting Gattis in the outfield means you are replacing Heywards offense with Bethancourts offense.......yikes.

no it doesn't. gattis will play significantly more in left than he would catching.

if he can't stay healthy that's another problem, but i don't see why he couldn't

So 75 more at bats from Gattis + Bethancourt versus Heyward......

As for the trade the only that makes me mad is Walden being thrown in. I loved Heyward and hoped every season he would live up to his potential wanted him to be a Brave for life. However he is what he is, an outstanding defensive player and a average hitting OF. Many here are overvaluing him for what he could be almost like this board did with Marte. Heyward has been in the league FIVE years after five years the trade value you are going to get what he is currently not what he could be.

Uh, what?

In the first scenario neither panned out and one was traded for Ryan Church in a terrible OF for terrible OF swap. The other one signed a huge deal to ensure he stayed with his current club, and when approached for the same for Jason he balked rolling his dice on himself in FA.

How are those related exactly?

Yeah that is a head scratcher. So Braves offered Freddie and he took it. We offered Heyward an extension and it supposedly was no where in the ball park for his agent. So now we're racist because we traded because we couldn't come to terms with his agent??
