Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

I do think it's funny that those of us who are told we're wrong for waiting for an already productive player to reach his potential are being told to wait on a player, that is only one year younger than the player we had, to reach his potential even though he hasn't produced much in the majors. Baseball is funny...

Even with his defensive limitations in LF....having Gattis in the lineup everyday will improve the offense.

Having Bethancourt in the line-up will hurt the offense more overall as you're basically replacing Heyward with him with Gattis switching positions. Plus both Justin Upton and Gattis will be below average defenders in the outfield. Gattis will be among the worst in fact and I say that as one of his biggest fans. So that's a loss on both offense (Heyward & Gattis vs Gattis & Bethancourt) and defense too. It will be a big downgrade on defense because Heyward is the best right fielder in the game defensively.

That said, I still see at least one of Justin Upton or Evan Gattis traded before the season. Possibly both.

It's November 17th. A few weeks away from the winter meetings. Let's see what happens the rest of the offseason first. Even with his defensive limitations in LF....having Gattis in the lineup everyday will improve the offense.

Sure having Gattis in there everyday, if he can play everyday, would help the offense. But whatever is gained is more than wiped out with Bethancourt getting abs everyday. I'm aware that it's November 17th. But aside from 2B I don't see anything happening that would help the team. Even if they could trade CJ and BJ I have very little faith that could get uprades at those spots.

Here's our current lineup.

CB
Freeman
Gosselin
Simmons
CJ
Gattis
BJ
Justin

Man that is awful.

If we are going to go stat head then technically anyone off a random AAA roster would be better than BJ....

CJ extension just makes no sense to me....less every day.

anyone think we'll invest that 10 million we saved wisely?

Heyward and who?

Simmons?

Wow......it's worse when you actually look at it all together....why would anyone throw Freeman a strike all year?

I worry that Freeman will expand his zone and become frustrated by his production suffering from a lack of protection. Take Justin away and Freddie should just go on strike.

I've never been this upset/mad about a player leaving my team...I have a lot of wrath towards that **** John Hart right now. We have no OF replacement and apparently no money to sign anyone good.

We'll all see how important defense is when we see Gattis in LF this year. I completely believe Jason was blindsided and wanted to be here and didn't feel a long-term extension was discussed. I'll say it again: there's a reason a great, championship-winning organization coveted Heyward. They win and do things right. We haven't lately. This looks like another example of that. Sad day. I fully expect Jason to bust out.

I agree regarding BJ. But as long as he's here he will get playing time. I see no other way around that one. See Uggla.

I will say Wood, Julio, Minor, Miller is a pretty nice top 4 but the offense is so bad.

See the Red Sox going after Lester again right now. We are clearing alot of money and will have even more next offseason. If they could somehow find a way to get rid of BJ (package him with Minor or somebody else) then we could very well sign Heyward back next offseason. He's gonna test FA. He always was. Trade Justin and go after em both again next year.
