Braves Trade Jenkins to Rangers

I guess we didn't really need either of them... but a weird deal either way. Not too excited. Guess we just wanted another Jackson?

Jenkins seems like a great, great kid. Hope this works out for him, but it's a tough fit for him in the PCL. As far as I can tell, both Jenkins and Jackson have 1 option remaining. I wouldn't be surprised to see both DFA'd by the Summer. Maybe our scouts see something in Jackson, as the cliche goes.

Any chance our scouts see something that makes them think he can start again? I know I'm reaching, but I'm just not excited about another bullpen arm.

His year at AA in 2014 was very good... then he was promoted to AAA and looked worse than Chris Ellis.

Seems pretty clear that the FO is taking our overabundance of AAAA pitchers and trying to turn them into at least one potential impact player. Might work or it might not but at least it opens up spots for some of the younger talent in the minors to move up in the system.

A little strange. Think I'd have just rather kept Jenkins. But I honestly don't think this trade will have much impact whatsoever on either side.

Seems like (from reading stuff about a player I didn't know anything about an hour ago) that Luke Jackson maybe has a higher upside as a reliever (closer/setup man). I suppose the braves might see some residual hope for him as a starter (but doubt it). Another former pretty high draft pick. Braves do like tools.

Braves seems to be acquiring a lot of young, high upside relievers for the pen.

Probably not. We seem to be taking as many shots on potential BP guys as possible. Probably not a bad strategy.

Not the worst idea considering how valuable dominant relievers are these days. If Viz or Cabrera have a big first half for us we could likely flip them at the deadline for some serious pieces and have their replacements (obviously not someone who throws 102 like Cabrera) hopefully waiting in the wings.

I like this. I was never impressed with Jenkins. Yea on the surface he has good stuff but he has horrible control and can't strikeout anybody. In my opinion he settles into a long reliever or 6th inning type RP.

Luke Jackson obviously has his issues. But he's got pure power stuff out of the bullpen with good strikeout stuff. Would much rather take a chance on a guy like him then see what Jenkins settles into

Yea I can't see how the Braves view him as a starter. They see the premium stuff out of the bullpen and with our SP depth there's no room. Luke by far has the most upside out of Jenkins and Feigl. Look at the value premium power RP's are going for these days. I love how we're trying to stockpile as many as possible. All it takes is one or two of these guys to hit.

I'm fine with the move. Clearly the most talented piece is Jackson but also the least likely to provide at least some value. But if he can iron out the kinks then suddenly at worst you've got a back of the bullpen arm for 6 years.

Tyrell is a guy that always seemed overrated by the fan base because people like him and he seems like a nice guy. Ultimately, he's pretty pointless to our rebuild. Doesn't miss enough bats to have much of a role with us. May as well to a shot at a guy who could be a late-inning reliever. I did like Feigl though.

People like Jenkins bc they wanted to believe it was worth it to trade Heyward. My goodness people hyped this kid up.

Not sure I like this deal but we have to get rid of players

Oh yes I agree with that. I just don't see him panning out. Certainly worth a shot I guess.

better shot panning out then jenkins

Agreed. Even if Jenkins pans out his ceiling doesn't appear to be much higher than long-reliever/swingman. Granted, he may have a more predictable floor than Jackson, but this is a risk the Braves can afford to take (since they are flush with young arms and many of them [like Jackson] should get ample playing time in 2017).
