Braves Trade Jenkins to Rangers

People like Jenkins bc they wanted to believe it was worth it to trade Heyward. My goodness people hyped this kid up.

Not sure I like this deal but we have to get rid of players

Can't speak for everyone but I was so fond of Tyrell because of the person he is, nothing to do with his FV, back of baseball card, fastball velocity, ERA or what type of role he's best suited for. Yes, to some of us that's what truly matters because let's face it, you can't play ball forever. Wish Tyrell the best of luck in anything he may do, and hope he enjoys his time back at home where he can be closer to his little girl and the rest of his family. He's a Hall of Famer in my book...

Tyrell seemed like a good kid, but he wasn't going anywhere with us. I like the trend of stockpiling big arms for the pen. Some will pan out and some won't, but we'll have a power pen again soon if we play the odds. We'll aslo have some nice arms to throw in to future trades. Our surplus arms are looking promising

AAA
Simmons
Minter
Dirks
Morris
Jackson

Injured
Paco
Winkleer
Biddle
Walden

Don't forget Lindgren. He could easily be the best of the bunch. Rivero as well.

Just love that we are going for upside instead of high floors. I would have swore after seeing Tyrells stuff in ST two years ago that he was going to be a real good pitcher. For whatever reason it just hasn't translated. I hope he does well in texas.

Now we think the Heyward trade was a bad deal?

Keith Law had Jenkins just outside his top 100 for a couple years. Lots of ppl liked Jenkins b/c of his stuff and his athletic ability. But for whatever reason his stuff never translated to Ks. Could get 2 strikes but not put anyone away.

When we made the Heyward trade we didn't know about the Shelby MIller trade. But we did really well on 1 year of Heyward.

Indisputable. The first Heyward trade was good. The subsequent trade was historic (hopefully).

No, my point was (I thought it was mediocre at the time) that people hyped up Jenkins because there was dispute on if the Braves got enough. All of a sudden Jenkins was this unsung prospect.

I don't think so. Jenkins ceiling is much lower, but I think pretty attainable. Jackson has the higher chance of actually being an impact player though.

This. It's why the trade makes perfect sense. Jenkins was buried on the depth cart and had a limited ceiling. That meant he had virtually no shot at being of use to us. Jackson, on the other hand, has a huge ceiling but is a longshot to pan out. But the fact that he at least has a chance to be useful to us makes the trade make sense. We gave up stuff that had no chance at contributing and got back something that has a chance at contributing.

I never heard him hyped that much. I thought the main response to his acquisition of "Who?" or "Another guy with arm problems."

Jenkins, like a lot of guys, needs an "out" pitch if he's going to succeed. I get the impression that he wasn't all the way back when the Braves pushed him aggressively in 2015. Hope he carves out a decent career.

Braves fans hyping up Braves prospects because partiality is, ya know, kind of the whole point.

I think most were generally optimistic about Jenkins due to the glowing reports he had out of the Arizona Fall League after we traded for him. He's really active on social media and engages his fans well (he's always crowd sourcing for fans to play him in Madden or FIFA).

I don't view him as necessarily a low ceiling player, but he'd obviously plateaued with the Braves. I wish him all the best with Rangers and I hope they "win" the trade for his sake. Great kid

to me Jenkins had a chance to be a solid reliever. I think the strike outs might have develop a little more as he adjusts to the pen and he might still have a long career. I could see this one backfiring a bit, but Braves are gambling right now with their upper level prospects. I think they've decided that they aren't intending to rely on many of them and are shooting for the stars.

Yeah,I think you're right that they're not banking on many of their upper prospects, considering how many they've dealt in the last couple months and Coppy's "pitch better" answer to if the young guys felt passed over. Also the fifty year old starters are a clue.

I liked the depth on Jenkins' curveball. Late, sharp break. You gotta have three and control. He had two and nibbled a lot.

there are a lot of successful major league relievers who were mostly starters in the minors...Jenkins has a chance to be one of them

Klaus chat today says Jenkins has the best stuff and is an 80 athlete. Another reason ppl were high on him
