Braves trade Mallex and Simmons to M's for Gohara and Burrows

lol like you wouldn't be pimping Mallex as the next Ender if he were still with the Braves.

my recollection is thethe had an extremely exalted view of Mallex...but he has an extremely exalted view of many things...i liked Mallex too but not quite in the same way

Your take on Ender vs Mallex looks good so far. But I think its still early days on that one.

Even during 2016, it surprised me that Ender wasn't one of the most popular Braves (even before winning the GG). He's somebody's whom you can really build a team around. Plus, when they finally get competitive, he'll be even better.

It did, however, come as a surprise to read that I possessed a collection of Scotches (Zito might though). Thought to myself, "damn, there's only one bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold on hand and 2/3 of the bottle's gone."

I was a fan of Mallex, still am, but thought we got good value in the trade. Very strong belief on the uptick in stuff that was reported and ultimately that is why I think the Braves made the deal.

Actually, the issue is not decided. Based on what happened in 2017, the trade looks good. But this is going to be a good thread to revisit over the next couple years.

Agreed - Trades should not be judged as final at least for 2-3 years. Especially in baseball when you're dealing with young kids. Regardless of the value the organizations receive after the contracts that were traded expired, this is the type of deal I always want the Braves to make.

I always figured Mallex was lesser than Ender, but fit the likely window of contention better. Therefore, I was in favor of keeping Mallex over Ender, assuming the FO could maximize Ender's trade value.

Now that Mallex is gone Ender is not someone that can be traded if the Braves hope to compete any time soon.

Like most of the other major decisions the last 3-4 years, the Braves chose Ender over Mallex because they thought they could win in 2017. Turns out they didn't win in 2017.

I love Ender too...maybe there will be peace in the Middle East

Ender will be even better when the Braves are finally competitive? Huh?

Well, I will let Knucksie speak for himself...but I see Ender as having some leader of men type qualities...like Pendleton...and those qualities really play up in a pennant race...remains to be seen if Ender really is that type of guy

I think we could flip gohara right now for more than we gave, so I say win

And mallex is a 2 to 3 win guy in center. Had the braves played him all year and he showed that value he would also bring back more than a back end top 100 prospects.

That would be correct. Leadership and character will be in demand and important attributes when the time comes. Also, some players perform better under pressure. The day will come to f8nd that out too.

He might turn out to be a Nick Swisher.

Gohara looks like at worst a stud reliever. Likely a really good 3 lefty starter.

Mallex spent a bunch of time in aaa this year right? Not a great obp. Not a great of. He's a speed guy with a solid hit tool. He's one leg injury or age from being worthless.

We crushed this trade.

Pache is better than mallex now.

Mallex is a .9 WAR player who has been a far below average hitter since his BABIP dropped from near .400 in the opening two months of the season to the more realist .300 BABIP he's had since July 1, which oddly enough is right on what he managed in 200 PA with the Braves last year

Go figure. Advanced stats.

So you think mallex > gohara? I'm sorry, I don't

Currently? Yes I do. Gohara clearly has a higher ceiling. Also that's not what I was saying. What I'm saying is the same thing I said a year ago. Braves did not trade mallex at optimal value. Keeping him to showcase him as the 2 to 3 war cfer that he is would of been optimizing his value in a trade. Luckily gohara blew up with his value as well.

Rays and the Braves look like they probably will make out ok, but the Mariners traded Gohara, Burrows, Carlos Varga, and Ryan Yarbrough for a replacement level starter in 2016 who apparently will never throw an inning for them. Ouch.
