Confirmation Bias, Privilege, Media Manipulation, and a QB

I've never rooted for Cam because his teams have been rivals of mine. No doubt he's a great talent, but he got exposed in a few ways the other night. He's not the best in the game.

I don't think he handled himself all that well throughout the night and especially during the presser. But he's also 26 and human and has a lot to learn. He can take a lesson from Richard Sherman who said after last year's Super Bowl he wouldn't allow anyone to see him look defeated.

The National Anthem crap is just people finding things to complain about. There was a similar uproar over Obama not putting his hand on his heart. People conveniently forget our armed forces don't either. Get the hell over it.

But I think a lot of this really is overblown and it speaks to the sports media's and nation's overbearing obsession with football. They had to have something to talk about for an entire week after the last game because they're so football-deprived. And they need a couple weeks before they can start really honing in on the draft or until Peyton makes an official decision so they can jump right back into the Brady v. Manning fiasco all over again.

I wish baseball had not dropped off so much in popularity.

But why can't he? Other players do it. Maybe they're more subtle in it. Why is he the one player excluded from it? And if he was a sore loser then why did he go and congratulate guys the guys who won. Why didn't he just walk off the field like a baby like Peyton?

Again he left the presser because of a Broncos player trolling him. Not because they lost.

I mean... of course he CAN... but it doesn't look good. It never looks good when you're in everyone's face all the time when you're dominating, and nowhere to be found when you lose.

Tom Brady would have sat there and answered every question. Is he not competitive? Manning too... I am aware that others are babies, but if Cam wants to be the face of the league, he needs to man up.

But like tapate said, it's no big deal. Only reason we're talking about it is because the Panther fan brought it up

FWIW I do think the media is trying to bring Cam down. It's gonna force me to be a fan of a rival player. I don't want to do that but Cam is generally a good guy, he hasn't been tied to anything criminal yet, he doesn't get shat on by opponents. Sure a few guys don't like him, but that's true of any player in the NFL. I haven't seen anything to vilify Cam. Is he more emotional than some other players? Yes. Is that bad thing? No.

Good point. I don't think anyone has doubts if Cam Newton even loves football.

Many NFL players don't put their hand over their hearts during the national anthem. It's total crap.

Why doesn't it look good? Plenty of players do it. Again, we have examples of Peyton being a baby, Brady being a baby, etc. But they're OK being petulant on the field because they sit there and spew out canned responses in a presser? Give me a break. it's the dumbest thing to complain about. **** press conferences, they're stupid and offer no insight. Andy Reid is my favorite coach at press conferences because yo ucan tell his total contempt for the press.

Because he BEGS for the attention all week. Well, he got the attention and he didn't want it anymore.

Brady and Manning aren't trying to get in front of every camera (or snap pictures of themselves during football games)

When we played football we took our helmets off and held them infront of us with both hands. I think the only people who make a big deal about the heart thing are people who probably never played a sport and would yell at you for not standing up during God Bless America.

Russell Wilson did a great job with last year's press conference. Talk about a gutting loss. And he sat there and took the blame for the last minute interception.

Wilson is one of the handful of guys who're actually good at being poor sports. I mean he didn't pull a Peyton and throw his offensive line under the bus after the game.

I got chewed out by a Korea vet once because I was covering an event for my newspaper that ended with the crowd singing God Bless America. He berated me for "screwing around with my camera" and said I needed to realize we're all in this together.

Poor Gizelle... only getting married because Brady wants more attention.

What they do off the field, I don't care about. Manning is great on TV and he will have an amazing post-playing career doing it.

Cam is snapping selfies on the field while playing the Falcons.

Again, Cam's antics didn't really bother me. But you can't have it both ways

And when the Falcons beat the Panthers the falcons hammed it up too. Cam wasn't petulant about it. It's part of the game. Again the "negative" thing about him was walking out of a presser.

Why would I think racist's view represent the views of the majority? Of course racist people don't like Cam
