CrimsonCowboy's 2014 NFL Mock Draft

Donald-Pryor-Ha Ha

I'll be happy with any of those 3 for the Bears at #14. Would love to see them get Donald at 14 and somehow get back into the 1st round to grab one of the 2 safeties. They only have 6 picks this year, so they'd have to use some of next year's picks to do so.

I've been hearing the opposite with the Saints. With their cap situation, I've heard they're the most likely of any team to trade out of the 1st round and load up on picks.

That doens't make too much sense. The cap hit between say 14 and 44 is 1M if anything a team tight to the cap would go harder for the higher pick because they can afford 1 player more than 2.

All I know right now if Dallas picks Manziel (Don't think they will), I'm going to Arlington and have Jerry Jones committed.

I don't think Jerry will get a shot to make that mistake, assuming Manziel makes it past the Browns and Raiders, he would also have to make it past the Bucs and Vikings, those 4 teams going non-QB or taking Bridgewater, Carr, or Bortles all over Manziel is unlikely, but you never know.

So while unlikely, it seems like what the Falcons need is someone to draft someone really stupid or 2 QBs to go in the top 5 to land one of the guys they really want or be in a position to net some nice picks

So it looks like the 5 best prospects by most opinions are in kind of order, Clowney, Mack, Robinson, Watkins, Matthews. 1 and 2 are usually consensus, but honestly after 1 it's all up for debate. I like Matthews, but I'd rather have one of the top 3.

So looking at the draft, you have

Texans - Clowney (almost a given by all reports) Texans want to trade out, but no one ahead of Atlanta seemingly wants CLowney or anyone else on the board that much.
Rams - Robinson or Mack - More likely position of tradeout. Say the Browns really want Manziel or the Raiders really want Watkins, or say the Texans don't take Clowney Rams may have some offers
Jags - QB or Mack - Just used a very high (yuk yuk yuk) pick on Blackmon, can't see them going Watkins but you never know
Browns - QB or Watkins - DOn't have much need on the OL. They desperately need a Franchise QB. They may look to trade out. Browns would be dumb if they don't trade out to not take a QB
Raiders - Watkins, Evans or Matthews, theyneed WRs, Detroit would likely go nuclear if Watkins goes 4 and Evans 5. Raiders are most likely team to trade out as well. Best case scenario for you Sturg is Watkins to make it to this pick as they'd be very likely to consider trading out given only having 4 picks in the top 200
Then the Falcons are sitting at 6. Best case scenario, Jags and Browns both go QB. That leaves a great opportunity to trade down if the Raiders don't trade down ro to take Mack or Robinson. Worst case, no QBs go top 5 and the top 5 players are off the board. If that happens, or maybe even if Matthews is the best prospect, I think they go Barr, maybe Lewan assuming no one wants to trade up.

4 teams are most likely trade outs? LOL.

I think at 6 things begin to shake up. Especially if Manziel makes it there and Evans. Those are two players the Bills (Evans), TB (Manziel or Evans), and Detroit (Evans) could jockey for.

I'd take Lewan at 6 if GRob, and Matthews are gone. He plays nasty and has longer arms and a few inches on Matthews..I think I prefer him over Matthews anyway.

Either way, i think OBJ goes in that 10-12 range because of how early Evans will go.

I think the only way we get Watkins is if he falls to 4, and we trade up with Cleveland. I don't see anyway Oakland passes up on him, or even trades the pick, unless we blow them away, and we won't do that in such a deep draft

Citing "word on the street," ESPN's Ed Werder reported on SportsCenter Wednesday that the Texans are asking the Falcons for a Robert Griffin III-like trade haul to get from No. 6 overall to No. 1.

In 2012, the Redskins sent the Rams three first-round picks and a second-round pick to jump from No. 6 to No. 2 overall, where they drafted RG3 behind Andrew Luck. The move made more sense with Washington pursuing a quarterback. Clowney has a chance to be great, but even if he has a Hall of Fame career, would not offer the impact of a franchise quarterback. Per Werder, the "dialogue" between the Texans and Falcons is "legitimate, and continues as we speak."

Hmmm. Not sure I do that if I'm the Falcons.

I absolutely wouldn't. I'd be super pissed if we did. You can make that move for a franchise QB who'll be around for a decade+ not a defensive end. Unless he winds up being the best defensive player of all time or the Falcons win a ring before those picks are gone it would be a horrific trade for the Falcons

There aren't a lot of suitors and the Rams are dying to trade back as well...doubt the move up costs us much more than a 1 next year. Personally, I think we need three starters from this draft, so I'd hold onto every pick we have.

My idea as well. In the first round we get one of Mack/Robinson/Matthews or worst case we get Lewan or Barr. Second round we get Tuitt, Ford, or an OL. The depth of flex players is why I won't cry too much if we don't get Mack and why I'd take Lewan/Matthews over Barr. Third round we can go hunting for safety or RB, or Center or a number of other positions of need. I don't consider them first 2 round necessary to fix because protecting ryan and rushing the passer are way more important than secondary or RB. Also some quality OL who may fall to the third like Gabe Jackson, Trai TUrner, Cyril RIchardson, etc. I like Sims in the 4th if he's there for a RB pick. and the last 3 picks add some line depth and secondary depth.

Also one mock I saw had Sam falling to the Falcons in the 7th. That would rock. He's got some raw skills, could be a 3-4 rush end or drop end when needed or a 4-3 OLB or a super sub. Hard to argue against someone with what he did in his last year at Mizzou

This is my best case scenario:

1. Lewan OT Mich

2. Demarcus Lawrence OLB\DE Boise

3. Mewhort OT\C\OG OSU

4. Baptiste CB to convert to FS NEb

4. Jerrick McKinnon RB GSU

5. Lofton LSU FS

6. Joe Don Duncan TE Dixie St (Want a WR also here or Kelcy Quarles)

7. Zac Kerr DT Delaware

7. whoever

7. whoever

That would work for me. Don'y know if I'd take Lewan over Matthews but I can see the case. Lewan has more ability but is less polished.

Talk continuing today about the Lions possibly moving up to take Sammy Watkins.

Also, my final mock will come out late this evening. I know you all will be waiting on the edge of your seats.:icon_biggrin:

Lions for Watkins or even Evans is probably the most likely trade. Rams and Texans i don't think will find someone willing ot pay what they're asking for but you never know. Browns JMO set the tone for the rest of the draft. Jags are seemingly unlike to take a QB. No effing clue why so they're likely to take Robinson or Mack. Browns take Matthews or Watkins and then Evans may go 5 to the Raiders.
