I think that's right. Which is why I think we have to ship something/someone(s) worth 8M to the Blue Jays in a Romero for Uggla swap.

I doubt Toronto has interest in him or Varvaro. I was just saying I'd give them or similar pitchers up if it got us some salary relief in an Uggla trade. Plus we only have five spots in the rotation and I've already made it clear which five I favor. I also like Hale as a starter better than Harang too.

I agree. I'd like to go to war the rest of this season with a rotation of Santana, Minor, Teheran, Wood and Floyd. Hale, Martin and Thomas provide some options is there is a need.

However, it's probably best for the Braves that you end up correct as I do agree that he is unlikely to get moved.
 
I may be the only one (or certainly in a small group), but I'd just as soon leave Wood in the bullpen for the time being. Harang may implode, but I am willing to let the string play out on him.

I'd just as soon send money with Uggla if that's what it takes to get a deal done as opposed to (1) taking on one of their bad contracts or (2) trading someone for the sake of trading them. But I'm pretty much in support of anything that gets Uggla out of Atlanta.
 
We need to get rid of uggla. he hurts us in the field and with the bat. having him on the bench hurts the bench. it is a distraction for the team.

IF the Jays will take him you have to do it. If we have to give up pen arm that isn't in your long term plans, do it.

Uggla is a sunk cost. Maybe we can just trade for Romero and eat the difference.

After the top 10, not as many of them even are prospects, especially with the Braves system thinner than previous years. Considering what Harang's being paid and what they're getting out of him, he's more valuable right now than somebody who probably won't stick in the majors.

FWIW to those bantering about Romero. Continue to watch my Gwinnett thread. Romero's pitching tomorrow evening for Buffalo.
 
Another option. RA Dickey has underperformed for them. Maybe we can send them Uggla, Harang, and say Martin plus a throw away prospect. Money is basically a wash they get 2 guys who can contribute pitching right now. We get someone who maybe coming back to the NL gets his groove back.
 
Toronto is desperate for pitching. No way they trade away anything remotely resembling a decent starting pitcher. Especially not for that package

Dickey has still been an averagish pitcher overall this yr and is an innings eater. To use your favorite stat, he has a 3.96 FIP. Trading Dickey for Harang is a minimal upgrade (if at all really) and they still are in desperate need for pitching help. Dickey is still probably their 3rd best starting pitcher, which is more sad than anything, but it shows how poor their staff has been and how losing Dickey isn't helpful to them at all.

They aren't trading Dickey. Or any other remotely effective starting pitcher currently on their staff.
 
I wouldn't give ANYONE anything of consequence to take Uggla's contract at this point, and I sure as *ell wouldn't include ANY of our Pitching prospects to convince someone else to take any of his contract on. We have better 2B options - both on the active roster AND in the minor leagues.

Uggla is a sunk cost. The WORST thing Wren & Company could do at this point is trade anyone with ANY upside at all to keep from swallowing the money. FAR better to simply admit you've made a mistake and release him and swallow the money than to compound the mistake by giving anything of value away to save face.

Someone mentioned that the organization needed better beancounters, particularly some that had a decent understanding of "sunk costs" - I couldn't agree more. As a real estate appraiser who hears people whining that they "know the market is bad right now, but it hasn't affected my house" on a daily basis, I can promise you that the only point in time that things will ultimately improve is when we finally remove our egos from the equation. Uggla was a "perfect fit" when we traded for him, and extending him was a terrible mistake.

Just admit it and move on.

They'd add Martin who's MLB ready. And I used ERA because that's what MLB GMs look at mostly.
