DOB: Braves offseason about to get a lot busier. - Gamel released.

Mark Bowman @mlbbowman
The likelihood of O'Flaherty returning to Atlanta was at least enhanced when the Nationals acquired Jerry Blevins today.

David O'Brien @ajcbraves
#Braves Wren wouldn't get into any specifics, said they've made progress on couple of potential deals, not sure if would finalize any here.

Rosenthal reporting Price WOULD NOT consider signing a long-term extension if traded to Seattle, but WOULD consider it based on where he's dealt.

Absolutely have to believe Wren's neck deep in talking to Friedman. Price has been quoted as saying he grew up a Braves fan, and he already has old pal B. J. here, so you've got to figure we're one of the places he'd consider an extension.

With Texas and the Dodgers supposedly out and Seattle likely to back away given that news, Tampa's leverage is dwindling by the day. There's nothing that says they CAN'T wait until later to deal him, but the return drops with every start he makes if they decide to play chicken.

Wood/Sims/Bethancourt/Peraza has to look better and better given this news.

And Minor too. Get Price and then Alvarez from the Pirates to complete the trifecta.

Someone troll tweet DOB and ask him to summarize our busy offseason so far because we've lost track with all the moves.

It is curious that Wren is most likely going to bring back both Venterd and EOF. By the time they are actually ready to pitch there will be 3 LHers with Avilan also in the BP, which is a good thing.

The interesting thing is that means Wood almost HAS to be in the BP to start the season because Wren isn't going to sign another LHer just to bridge the gap until EOF and Venters are ready to go.

If signing EOF assures Wood starts the season in the BP, then signing EOF also assures Wren has secured another starter to fill out the rotation.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Braves "could be leading suitors" Jeff Samardzija if the Cubs decide to trade him.
The Braves won't trade No. 1 prospect Lucas Sims, but O'Brien believes the club could put together an appealing package without depleting their minor league system. The Cubs are loaded with position prospects, so moving Samardzija would be one way to infuse some young pitching into their organization. The Cubs haven't ruled out re-signing the 28-year-old, but they'll have plenty of suitors if they decide to deal him.

Bad news....

I hear #Braves made inquiries into contract extensions with few of their young standouts past 2 yrs, felt would take big overpay to get done.

David O'Brien ‏@ajcbraves 3h

Not to say they've given up, but I get impression that #Braves aren't optimistic about getting extensions done that'r good for both sides.

Not a surprise. Might see one of them (Heyward) go for Price. More would be involved, obviously, but I think something like that could happen.

Of course, with DOB's rep lately, that probably means Wren signed everyone to a team-friendly contract.

I'd do that if we could sign Price to an extension.

Heresy!!!!!!!!!!

J/K but I think the lack of action this total off season (going outside the organization) means that things may not be to our liking going into near future. Front office may be focusing on paying down debt on the new stadium rather than fortifying the team.

That's disappointing. Would be nice if our talent were open to mutually beneficial extensions. Yankees farm club it is.
